Cannabidiol (CBD) is the non-psychoactive component of the plant Cannabis sativa (L.) that has great anti-inflammatory benefits and wound healing effects. However, its high lipophilicity, chemical instability, and extensive metabolism impair its bioavailability and clinical use.

Forms of Ocular Larval Toxocariasis in Childhood. A Review.

The aim of this paper is to present an outline of forms of ocular manifestations of visceral larva migrans in children, as illustrated by the extensive photographic documentation. Ocular larval toxocariasis (OLT) has various clinical manifestations even in childhood age, in which age representation has an influence. The most common is presence of peripheral granuloma of the eye, frequently with a tractional vitreal streak leading from the retinal periphery to the optic nerve papilla.

ATYPICAL FORMS OF EYE TOXOPLASMOSIS IN CHILDHOOD. CASE REPORTS.

Vasa nervorum of epicardial nerves and valves of small veins investigated in porcine heart by two types of vascular injections.

The morphology of the vascular supply of peripheral branches of cardiac nerves has not been systematically described until now. The aim of this study was to describe the architectonics of the vasa nervorum of epicardial nerves in porcine hearts by using two injection techniques. Twenty-three hearts from young healthy pigs were used.

UVEAL MELANOMA IN A 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL. CASE REPORT.

Uveal melanoma is the most common intraocular tumour in adults, it is a form of cancer that affects mostly older adults, as the average age at detection of this tumour is 60 years, but it can occur in any age group with no significant gender difference. However, uveal melanoma is very rare in children compared to the adult population, accounting for 1 % of all cases. In pediatric patients, malignant uveal melanoma is more frequently manifested during puberty, leading to speculation of an association between uveal melanoma and growth hormone levels.

Vascular supply of the anterior interventricular epicardial nerves and ventricular Purkinje fibers in the porcine hearts.

The aim of this study was to perform a pilot histological and quantitative analysis of the blood vessels accompanying the epicardial nerves (vasa nervorum) in the porcine hearts. Twenty healthy porcine hearts were used in this study. The blood vessels were analyzed by light microscopy using four different staining techniques in transverse sections taken from the upper, middle, and lower segments of the anterior part of the interventricular region and the adjacent parts of the right and left ventricles containing epicardial nerves and the endocardial peripheral parts of the Purkinje fibers.

Merkel Cell Carcinoma of the Eyelids (Clinical-Histological Study).

Aim: To get acquainted with the issues of Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) when the eyelid is affected and with its surgical solution.

Materials: MCC of the right upper eyelid was at the Department of Ophthalmology in the Faculty Hospital Královské Vinohrady in Prague (Czech Republic, EU) in 1998 woman 78 year. Another cases of the MCC on the left upper eyelid were observed in two women aged 48 and 67 years and they were pick up in a retrospective study covered 1033 operated tumors eyelids years 2007 - 2015.

Morphology of the vasa vasorum in coronary arteries of the porcine heart: A new insight.

Introduction: The vasa vasorum interna were described during the last decade as a special kind of vessels originating directly from the lumen of the paternal artery and participating in the nourishment of its wall, especially of the aorta and coronary arteries. At the same time, their existence was repeatedly denied/negated by many other authors.

Aim: The purpose of the actual study was the anatomical verification of the existence of the vasa vasorum interna in porcine coronary arteries.

Valves of the small coronary veins in porcine hearts.

The aim of the study was to investigate the existence of valves in small peripheral coronary veins of porcine hearts. The study was performed on 20 porcine hearts using standard histological methods. The veins in the subepicardial and intramyocardial regions of the anterior and posterior parts of the interventricular septum and in the wall of the right atrium were studied.

Sarkoidosis and its Eye Ocular Manifestation (an Analysis of Six Case Report).

Aim: To introduce the range of eye changes in sarcoidosis in the individual casuistics.

Materials: At the Ophthalmic Clinic of Teaching Hospital Královské Vinohrady in Prague were examined and treated six patients with ocular forms of sarcoidosis in the years from 1998 to 2015. Three patients were unilateral lesions of the lacrimal gland without systemic symptoms.

Vasa vasorum: an old term with new problems.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to describe the origin of the Latin anatomical term vasa vasorum and its role in current medical research and to present examples of grammatical errors in its use.

Methods: Literary searches oriented on the term vasa vasorum were used to identify publications using it in the medical literature from the seventeenth century up to the present.

Results: The Latin term vasa vasorum was introduced by Ludwig in 1739.

Vasa vasorum of the failed aorto-coronary venous grafts.

Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the distribution of vasa vasorum in walls of failed aorto-coronary venous grafts.

Methods: Fifty-one diseased venous grafts harvested from 39 patients underwent qualitative histological evaluation. The morphology of the grade of the pathological changes and the extent of the vascularisation were examined, and related to the length of the interval between the primary surgery and the explantation.

[Two synchronous malignancies in a single nephrectomy specimen].

We report a case of a 65-year-old man examined for hematuria and neurologic symptoms. Radiologically a tumour of the kidney was suspected, with metastatic involvement of the brain and both lungs. The urologists then performed a cytoreductive nephrectomy.

Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Patients Differ Strongly in Frequencies and Spectra between Patients with Low CD4+ Cell Counts Examined Postmortem and Compensated Patients Examined Antemortem Irrespective of the HAART Era.

Objective: AIDS-related mortality has changed dramatically with the onset of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), which has even allowed compensated HIV-infected patients to withdraw from secondary therapy directed against opportunistic pathogens. However, in recently autopsied HIV-infected patients, we observed that associations with a broad spectrum of pathogens remain, although detailed analyses are lacking. Therefore, we focused on the possible frequency and spectrum shifts in pathogens associated with autopsied HIV-infected patients.

[About Cryptophthalmos (2nd Czech Study)].

Aim: To get acquainted with the 2nd Czech study about cryptophthamos and with self-surgical methods.

Material: The boy with unilateral complete cryptophthalmos of left eye was treated from 2 to 20 years. The girls was treated from 4 month to 5 year yet for right abortive cryptophthalmos with microblepharon and left complete type still waiting for solutions.

[Lymphangioma of the orbitopalpebral area].

Aim: The authors refer about five patients with different types of lymphangioma, who were followed-up at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty Hospital Královské Vinohrady (Kings Vinegards), Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, E.U., during the period 1995 - 2013; the follow-up period lasted from 5 to 17 years.

[Sarcomatoid (metaplastic) spindle cell carcinoma arising in a phylloid tumor with massive squamous metaplasia - a case report and review of the literature].

Unlabelled: A 76-years-old woman underwent a partial mastectomy and a low-grade malignant homologous phyllodes tumor measuring 45 mm in maximum diameter was diagnosed. Beyond its typical dual composition the tumor displayed extensive intraductal squamous metaplasia. Approximately in one third of the lesion the original mesenchymal component cytologically and structurally changed which ultimately led to seeming stromal overgrowth.

Intraindividual cognitive decline using a brief computerized cognitive screening test.

Background: Progressive intraindividual decline in memory and cognition is characteristic of dementia and may be useful in detecting very early Alzheimer's disease pathology.

Methods: This study evaluated the slopes of cognitive performance over a 12-month period in 263 healthy, community-dwelling, adult volunteers aged ≥50 years. Participants completed a brief computerized battery of cognitive tests (CogState) at baseline and during 3-, 6-, 9-, and 12-month follow-up assessments.

Cribriform adenocarcinoma of the base of the tongue and low-grade, polymorphic adenocarcinomas of the salivary glands.

Low-grade, polymorphic adenocarcinomas occur mainly in females and are usually associated with the small salivary glands of the palate. The tumors are malignant, but not aggressive. Regional neck as well as distant metastasis is rare and the mortality rate is low.
