Molecular vibrations within a hydrogen-bonded network are expected to be significantly anharmonic and hence poorly described by conventional normal-mode analysis. Moreover, the rather flat potential energy landscapes experienced in such cases imply sampling of several local-energy minima, casting further doubt upon the standard methodology. Both difficulties may be overcome through first-principles molecular dynamics, used here to obtain vibrational spectra and thermal ellipsoids for glycinate adsorbed on copper.

Background: Donation after circulatory death (DCD) donation is becoming more and more popular worldwide. However, in this setting of donation, heart graft suffers from the ischemic injury related with the cardiac arrest. In Italy, the declaration of death with cardiac parameters requires the registration of electrocardiograph for twenty minutes resulting in a very prolonged grafts' warm ischemia time.

Accurately characterizing bone properties using quantitative ultrasound remains a significant challenge due to the dispersive nature of guided waves, limited observations, irregularity of bone structure, and heterogeneity of bone tissues. In this paper, an inversion technique is proposed that combines weighted mean absolute criteria and the simulated annealing algorithm to extract the thicknesses and elastic properties of a bilayer bone model. By utilizing the L1 norm with an appropriate weighting parameter, this method effectively reduces the influence of outliers and noises commonly encountered in ultrasonic data, leading to more accurate estimation.

Continuous glucose monitors have revolutionized diabetes management, yet such devices are limited by their cost, invasiveness, and stability. Microneedle (MN) arrays could offer improved comfort compared to invasive implanted or mm-sized needle devices, but such arrays are hampered by complex fabrication processes, limited mechanical and sensor stability, and/or cytotoxicity concerns. This work demonstrates the first crosslinked hydrogel microneedle-bioelectroenzymatic sensor arrays capable of biomarker extraction and robust transdermal continuous monitoring in artificial interstitial fluid for 10 days.
