Background: The release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) is the basis of immune-mediated thrombosis. Data on the clinical relevance of NETs in antiphospholipid syndrome-related thrombosis are scarce.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the NET regulator proteins PADI4, ELANE, and MPO are associated with thrombosis in APS.

Although dyslipidemia is associated with poorer prognosis in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), the management of lipid disorders can be challenging. While statins may increase the bleeding risk associated with anticoagulation, the effectiveness of hypolipid diet (HD) has not yet been established in patients with autoimmune disorders. In this study, we evaluated whether HD is associated with decreases in cholesterol levels in patients with thrombotic primary APS (t-PAPS) and dyslipidemia.

Tissue factor (TF) is a procoagulant protein associated with increased risk of thrombotic events in antiphospholipid syndrome (t-APS). The mechanisms by which TF levels are increased in APS have not yet been established. The aim of this study was to investigate whether TF mRNA expression is associated with TF levels and thrombosis in APS.

The mechanisms behind the severe hypercoagulable state in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) have not yet been fully elucidated. Knowledge on the etiology of thrombosis in APS is needed to improve treatment. We performed a case control study to evaluate the association of the levels of circulating tissue factor (TF) with thrombotic APS and unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE), as compared with controls without a history of thrombosis.

Triple positivity (TP) for antiphospholipid antibodies(aPL) may identify aPL carriers with poorer prognosis. The clinical impact of TP in primary antiphospholipid syndrome(PAPS) remains unclear and further clinical evidences are needed to validate TP as a marker of severity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of TP on the clinical course of PAPS with thrombosis(t-PAPS).

Introduction: Antibodies directed against domain 1 of β2 glycoprotein 1 (aβ2GP1-Dm1) have been involved in the immunopathogenesis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). However, the clinical relevance of aβ2GP1-Dm1 in thrombotic APS has not yet been fully explored.

Objectives: To determine the frequency of aβ2GP1-Dm1 in a cohort of patients with thrombotic APS, and to evaluate whether testing for aβ2GP1-Dm1 could have a clinical impact upon the risk assessment of the disease.

The home prothrombin time/international normalized ratio (PT/INR) self-management could be convenient for patients, enhancing treatment compliance and improving the quality of the oral anticoagulation. However, patient self-management (PSM) of oral anticoagulation may not be feasible for up to half of the patients due to cognitive or educational issues. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility of a PSM program in a public health medical center that provides care for low-income patients.

Introduction: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a pro-thrombotic autoimmune disease that affects different vascular beds, with potential risk for recurrence. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), specific autoantibodies profile and atherogenic disorders have been described as risk factors for the occurrence of first thrombosis in patients with antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL). However, factors associated with recurrent thrombosis have not yet been completely elucidated in APS.
