Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory granulomatous disease of unknown aetiology. Although the lungs and thoracic lymph nodes are the most frequently affected structures, every tissue can be affected. Ophthalmological involvement occurs in 25 % of cases.

The ocular disease mainly manifests as a bilateral, non-granulomatous, posterior uveitis or panuveitis, associated with occlusive retinal vasculitis.
