Sodium pectate derivatives with 25% replacement of sodium ions with nickel ions were obtained by carbonization to temperatures of 280, 550, and 800 °C, under special protocols in an inert atmosphere by carbonization to temperatures of 280, 550, and 800 °C. The 25% substitution is the upper limit of substitution of sodium for nickel ions, above which the complexes are no longer soluble in water. It was established that the sample carburized to 550 °C is the most effective active element in the hydrogen-oxidation reaction, while the sample carbonized up to 800 °C was the most effective in the oxygen-reduction reaction.

With increasing age in the human body, various pathophysiological changes are observed in response to the effects of various factors, taking into account the genetic predisposition. Among the possible factors causing an increase in cardiovascular risk in the general population are the level of blood pressure, changes in lipid metabolism and inflammation markers, as well as the magnitude of the filtration function of the kidneys. A number of nickel complexes of sodium pectate with varied Ni content have been synthesized and characterized. The presence of the proton conductivity, the possibility of the formation of a dense spatial network of transition metals in these coordination biopolymers, and the immobilization of transition ions in the catalytic sites of this class of compounds make them promising for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells. It has been established that the catalytic system composed of a coordination biopolymer with 20% substitution of sodium ions for divalent nickel ions, Ni (20%)-NaPG, is the leading catalyst in the series of 5, 15, 20, 25, 35% substituted pectates.

A diverse series of 43 novel "soft antimicrobials" based on quaternary ammonium pyridoxine derivatives which include six-membered acetals and ketals of pyridoxine bound via cleavable linker moieties (amide, ester) with a fragment of fatty carboxylic acid was designed. Nine compounds exhibited in vitro promising antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains with MIC values comparable with reference antiseptics miramistin, benzalkonium chloride and chlorohexidine. On various clinical isolates, the lead compounds 6i and 12a exhibited antibacterial activity comparable with that of benzalkonium chloride while higher than that of miramistin.

Many pathogenic bacteria and microscopic fungi form rigid polymicrobial biofilms this way enhancing their resistant to treatment. A series of novel pyridoxine-based quaternary ammonium derivatives of terbinafine characterized by both antifungal and antibacterial activities was designed. The leading compound named KFU-127 exhibits promising antifungal and antibacterial activities against various bacteria and micromycetes in both planktonic and biofilm-embedded forms demonstrating MIC values comparable with those of conventional antifungals and antimicrobials.

A series of 108 novel quaternary bis-ammonium pyridoxine derivatives carrying various substituents at the quaternary nitrogen's and acetal carbon was synthesized. In the presented paper had been examined parameters of arterial stiffness (stiffness index, SI m/s; reflection index, RI%; augmentation index, Alp; biological age of the vascular system, VA years; age index, AGI; alternative stiffness index, aSI; index of increase in HP=75, Aiр 75%), central arterial pressure and cystatin C content in serum. Features of gene expression of the secreted Bacillus pumilus metalloendopeptidase belonging to the adamalysin/reprolysin family were investigated. The mprBi gene from Bacillus intermedius 3-19 encoding a novel secreted metalloproteinase was identified. The mpriBi gene was expressed in an extracellular proteinase-deficient Bacillus subtilis BG 2036 strain and the corresponding protein was characterized biochemically. GABA, baclofen, epinephrine, and norepinephrine hyperpolarized the membrane of earthworm somatic cells. This effect was prevented by furosemide, removal of Cl- from the medium, or activation of Na+/K+ pump by 3-fold increase external potassium concentration. It was hypothesized that GABA, baclofen, epinephrine, and norepinephrine stimulate Na+/K+ transport via specific receptor inputs, but their effect on resting potential can be realized only under conditions of working Cl- symport.

GABA, baclofen, isoguvacine increase, and cis-4-aminocrotonic acid does not modify resting membrane potential of muscle cells. Bicuculline, phaclofen, N-ethylmaleimide, chlorpromazine, verapamil, and removal of Ca2+ from bathing solution abolished the effect of baclofen, while U73122 and D609 were ineffective in this respect. The authors conclude that the Lumbricus terrestris muscle cells contain GABAergic structures similar to a- and b-receptors.
