Article Synopsis
  • Lactase persistence (LP) evolved as a significant genetic trait in European, African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian populations over the last 10,000 years, largely influenced by milk consumption patterns.
  • Despite evidence of widespread milk use in Europe since the Neolithic period, the relationship between prehistoric milk consumption and LP allele frequency is complex and suggests that other factors, such as environmental stressors, may have played a role in driving LP selection.
  • The findings indicate that LP's rise in frequency may be better understood in the context of population dynamics and challenges faced by societies, rather than solely through the lens of milk exploitation.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of fully integrated [18F]-FDG PET/MRI in the assessment of retroperitoneal fibrosis with regard to disease activity, extent and vascular involvement compared to clinical and laboratory parameters.

Methods: Seventeen [18F]-FDG PET/MRI examinations were performed in fourteen patients. Qualitative (visual 4-point scale) and quantitative PET parameters (maximum standardised uptake value, SUVmax; target-background ratio, TBR) as well as RF thickness and volume were correlated to clinical and inflammatory parameters and compared between therapy-naïve patients and patients under immunosuppression.

Article Synopsis
  • Honeybee populations face threats from pesticides, diseases, and other stressors, highlighting their vital role in agriculture and the historical relationship between humans and bees dating back to ancient Egypt and even the Stone Age.
  • Evidence suggests that humans have been harvesting bee products, particularly beeswax, since prehistoric times, and its chemical composition allows for recognizing these products in archaeological contexts.
  • Research indicates that Neolithic farmers across Europe, the Near East, and North Africa continuously exploited bee products from at least the seventh millennium cal BC, suggesting an essential cultural and technological role for honeybees in early agricultural societies.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of hybrid [(18)F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI in patients with large vessel vasculitis (LVV) by comparing visual and quantitative parameters to that of PET/CT. Furthermore, the value of PET/MRI in disease activity and extent of LVV was assessed.

Methods: A total of 16 [(18)F]FDG PET/MRI and 12 [(18)F]-FDG PET/CT examinations were performed in 12 patients with LVV.
