Levodopa-Carbidopa-Entacapone Intestinal Gel in Advanced Parkinson Disease: A Multicenter Real-Life Experience.

Background: For Parkinson disease (PD) patients who have been diagnosed with advanced disease that can no longer be effectively controlled with optimized oral or transdermal medications, a range of device-aided therapies (DAT) are available, comprising either deep brain stimulation or infusion therapies providing continuous dopaminergic stimulation. Levodopa-entacapone-carbidopa intestinal gel (LECIG) infusion is the latest DAT for advanced PD (APD) that was approved in Romania in 2021.

Study Question: What is the experience to date in real-world clinical practice in Romania regarding the efficacy and tolerability of LECIG in APD?

Study Design: A retrospective evaluation of 74 APD patients treated with LECIG at 12 specialized APD centers in Romania.

Factors Generating the Willingness of Romanian Consumers to Buy Raw Milk from Vending Machines.

The use of automatic raw milk dispensers for products obtained from Romanian farms can represent an effective method of encouraging the development of short supply chains and promoting sustainable production and consumption systems. There are very few studies in the literature, especially in emerging economies, that analyze consumer perception regarding the use of raw milk dispensers; most of the research is focused on technical aspects regarding how such machines function and food safety, and less on consumers' perceptions towards them or consumer satisfaction, loyalty, or intention to use them. Therefore, the objective of this research was to investigate the willingness of Romanian consumers to buy raw milk from vending machines.

The Motivation of Medical Staff and the Work Interestedness in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic, in a Tertiary Hospital in Romania.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the motivation and work interestedness of employees in a tertiary hospital located in the northwest of Romania. In the study, 2230 employee satisfaction questionnaires distributed during 2019-2021 in the Oradea Emergency County Clinical Hospital (CCEHO) were analyzed. The percentage of those who declare themselves motivated at the hospital level remains relatively constant, at around 75%.

Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is a frequent complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) with severe consequences as it progresses and influences all human body systems. This review discusses the risk factors for DN, the main characteristics of the clinical forms of DN, the screening methods and the current therapeutic options. Distal symmetric DN is the primary clinical form, and DM patients should be screened for this complication.

Intradiploic epidermoid cysts - a series of three cases and our experience with literature data.

Intracranial epidermoid cysts are rare, representing almost 1% of all primary tumors and when are located in the diploe result from entrapped ectodermal embryonic remnants. Simulated data on bond of steel reinforcement in self-compacting concrete.

In this paper, the data were simulated using the bond model, proposed in a previously published research article of the author, to predict the peak bond stress in self-compacting concrete (SCC). The parameters considered were the concrete compressive strength, the geometrical properties of the reinforcing bar, and the confining reinforcement. The data consisted of 500 simulations for various concrete grades (C12, C16, C20, C25, C30, C35, C40, C45, and C50) and reinforcing bar diameters (10, 12, 16, 20, and 25 mm).

Legal medicine implications in fibrinolytic therapy of acute ischemic stroke.

Background: Before the advent of fibrinolytic therapy as a gold standard method of care for cases of acute ischemic stroke in Romania, issues regarding legal medicine aspects involved in this area of medical expertise were already presented and, in the majority of cases, the doctors seem to be unprepared for these situations.

Main Text: The present research illustrates some of the cases in which these aspects were involved, that adressed a clinical center having 6 years of professional experience in the application of fibrinolytic treatment for stroke. The following cases report either situations in which the afore mentioned therapy was not rightfully administrated or legal aspects regarding the obtainment of informed consent.

Improving performance of a pharmacy in a Romanian hospital through implementation of an internal management control system.

According to general principles of good practice, adopted at the international level, quality control is a key function in management and not just a simple means of verification. In a clinic or hospital pharmacy, the chief pharmacist has the training and authority to take the control measures necessary to develop and implement an Internal Managerial Control System (IMCS). The present article analyzes and describes the case of the County Hospital of Oradea, Romania, and presents how the IMCS was adopted and integrated.

Potential of high-frequency ultrasonography in the management of atopic dermatitis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, highly pruritic skin disorder, with a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, characterized by abnormal skin barrier function. High-frequency ultrasonography (HF-USG) is an instrument with potential use in a variety of skin conditions. Previous studies on HF-USG in AD reported that apparently non-lesional skin also presents barrier defects.

Nonrobotic Total Endoscopic Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting: A Proof-of-Concept Study in 20 Patients.

Objective: At present, minimal invasive direct coronary artery grafting is the least invasive nonrobotic surgical approach to revascularize the left anterior descending artery with the left internal mammary artery. Total endoscopic coronary bypass grafting is performed with the help of a telemanipulator ("robot"). Clinical and histological aspects of malignant inverted sinonasal papilloma. Two case reports.

The inverted sino-nasal papilloma is a benign epithelial lesion, ranging from 1% to 5% of the tumors that reside in this area. It is characterized by a tendency towards local bone destruction, recurrence and malignant transformation. This is a presentation of two cases diagnosed and surgically treated for malignant inverted papiloma, which started in the epithelium of the maxillary sinuses.

The effect of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel infusion long-term therapy on motor complications in advanced Parkinson's disease: a multicenter Romanian experience.

Chronic treatment with oral levodopa is associated with an increased frequency of motor complications in the late stages of Parkinson's disease (PD). Continuous administration of levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (LCIG-Duodopa(®), Abbott Laboratories), which has been available in Romania since 2009, represents an option for treating patients with advanced PD. Our primary objective was to report changes in motor complications after initiation of LCIG therapy.

The histopathological study of radicular dentinal changes in patients with chronic marginal periodontopathies.

Periodontal disease is one of the most frequent conditions in individuals, having major health and social implications. Progressing as a chronic inflammation at the level of tooth support tissues, untreated chronic periodontitis may lead to a premature loss of the dental organ. Even though the main lesions caused by the periodontal disease affect the alveolo-dental ligaments, we tried to highlight the presence of certain lesions of radicular dentine in patients with chronic marginal periodontopathy.

Considering the fact that extended partial edentation and complete edentation have high incidence rates worldwide, the necessity for correct prosthetic treatment is very important. We performed a clinical study on 37 extended partially edentulous patients and completely edentulous patients, who were divided into three groups. We also performed a morphological study using classic techniques of histology and immunohistochemistry methods on sections obtained from oral mucosa fragments collected from these patients and processed by paraffin embedding technique.

Our aim was to estimate the frequency and characteristics ofmethicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains occurring in a Romanian teaching hospital. We retrospectively studied isolates from infected or colonized patients treated at the intensive care and surgical units during January 2004-December 2005. The antibiotic susceptibility of MRSA strains and the presence of mecA gene were determined.

[Chemoresistance of mycobacteria in a group of patients with tuberculosis from Mureş county].

Aim: We studied tuberculosis drug-resistance cases related to risk factors involved, in Mureş district.

Methods: We used clinical files of 91 patients with tuberculosis drug resistance from 2006 at all, diagnosed during 2002-2006 at the Ambulatory department of Tuberculosis Clinic in Tg. Mureş town and cities nearby.

[Retroperitoneal appendicular abscess].

This article presents a 28 years old male patient case with a retroperitoneal collection of apendicular origin. After few comments about clinical and paraclinical aspects, the authors emphasise the particular aspects of differential diagnosis and surgical approach which, finally, lead to a full recovery of the patient.
