The impact of carvedilol and metoprolol on serum lipid concentrations and symptoms in patients with hyperthyroidism.

Background: Hyperthyroidism is associated with unpleasant symptoms and hypertension due to increased adrenergic tone. Therefore, beta-blockers are often used in hyperthyroid patients. While some beta-blockers (such as propronolol and metoprolol) may have unwanted effects on lipid profile, carvedilol, a new alpha- and beta-blocker, has been suggested to have some metabolic advantages with respect to lipid profiles in hypertensive patients.
