Background: Whether COVID-19 is associated with a change in risk perception about other health conditions is unknown. Because COVID-19 occurred during a breast cancer study, we evaluated the effect of COVID-19 risk perception on women's breast cancer risk perception.
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the relationship between perceived risk of COVID-19 and change in perceived breast cancer risk.
Introduction: Risk-based breast cancer screening aims to address persistent high morbidity and mortality. This study examined the experience of participants in the Women Informed to Screen Depending on Measures of Risk (WISDOM) trial who received a pathogenic variant in one of nine high or moderate penetrance breast cancer genes.
Methods: Participants completed a brief survey (n = 181) immediately following the results disclosure and 1 year later.
Risk-reducing endocrine therapy use, though the benefit is validated, is extremely low. The FDA has approved tamoxifen and raloxifene for a 5-year Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool (BCRAT) risk ≥ 1.67%.

To improve registry enrollment, we transitioned to an online registry and trial matching mechanism to aid women in accessing open studies.
Methods: Utilizing a validated verification platform, we designed a web-based registry and trial matching mechanism for women over age 18.
Background: Insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) is a potent mitogen for both normal and malignant prostate epithelial cells. The majority of circulating IGF-I is bound in a complex with IGF binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3), which in turn limits IGF-I bioavailability. Multiple studies suggest that higher IGF-I and/or lower IGFBP-3 serum levels are positively associated with prostate cancer risk.

Each breed features a defining constellation of morphological and behavioral traits, often generated by deliberate crossing of closely related individuals, leading to a high rate of genetic disease in many breeds. Understanding the genetic basis of both phenotypic variation and disease susceptibility in the dog provides new ways in which to dissect the genetics of human health and biology.

Little is known about the frequency of germ-line mutations in the breast cancer susceptibility genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 among Asian populations. We investigated the distribution of BRCA1 and BRCA2 germ-line mutations and polymorphisms in a cohort of women from Shanghai, China. Study subjects totaled 1306, and included 645 women with breast cancer, 342 women with benign breast disease, and 319 unaffected controls, born between 1924 and 1958, selected from women enrolled in a randomized trial of Breast Self-Examination in Shanghai, China.

Genetic polymorphism in HPC2/ELAC2 was recently associated with risk of sporadic prostate cancer. To determine the contribution of two HPC2/ELAC2 missense variants (Ser217Leu and Ala541Thr) to the risk of developing prostate cancer, we conducted a population-based case-control study of middle-aged men (40-64 years). Although delayed puberty is relatively common and often familial, its molecular and pathophysiologic basis is poorly understood. In an inbred pedigree with CPHD, direct sequencing of the PROP-1 gene revealed a deletion of two base pairs (301-302delAG) in exon 2, resulting in a frameshift and a premature stop in codon 109 in the homeodomain. The clinical characteristics of this family support the notion that this truncation results in a more severe phenotype than missense mutations in the aminoterminal part of the homeodomain.

The gene mutated in Pendred's syndrome, PDS (Pendred's syndrome gene), was cloned very recently and encodes the putative sulfate transporter pendrin. Pendred's syndrome may account for up to 10% of the cases with hereditary hearing loss, and pendrin mutations have also been found in a kindred with non-syndromic deafness.

We show here that transcriptional regulation of the Drosophila tropomyosin I (TmI) gene during myogenesis is under the control of at least two muscle enhancer regions located within the first intron of the gene. Together these enhancer regions contain multiple muscle-type-specific positive and negative cis-acting elements which together contribute toward full expression of the gene.
