COVID-19 Vaccination Acceptance among Health Science Students in Morocco: A Cross-Sectional Study.

While students in the health sciences occupy pivotal roles in the Moroccan COVID-19 response and vaccination campaigns, factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine acceptability among students have not been reported. This study aimed to determine the willingness and identify predictive attitudes and beliefs of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among health science students in Morocco. A cross-sectional, self-administered online questionnaire was conducted among students of the Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences in Casablanca, Morocco in January 2021.

Towards a Generic Residential Building Model for Heat-Health Warning Systems.

A strong heat load in buildings and cities during the summer is not a new phenomenon. However, prolonged heat waves and increasing urbanization are intensifying the heat island effect in our cities; hence, the heat exposure in residential buildings. The thermophysiological load in the interior and exterior environments can be reduced in the medium and long term, through urban planning and building physics measures.

The management of appendicular abscesses in a Tunisian Tertiary Care Hospital.

Background: This study aims to describe the epidemiological, clinical, and radiological features of appendicular abscesses, compare the different approaches, and assess the safety and utility of laparoscopy in its management.

Methods: This descriptive retrospective study was carried out over 3 years extending from January 2017 to December 2019, reporting 150 appendicular abscesses cases. Data were collected from the register of the general surgery department B of the Rabta hospital.

Basement membranes in obstructive pulmonary diseases.

Increased and changed deposition of extracellular matrix proteins is a key feature of airway wall remodeling in obstructive pulmonary diseases, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Studies have highlighted that the deposition of various basement membrane proteins in the lung tissue is altered and that these changes reflect tissue compartment specificity. Inflammatory responses in both diseases may result in the deregulation of production and degradation of these proteins.

Protective effect of green tea and epigallocatechin-3-gallate in a LPS-induced systemic inflammation model.

Inflammation causes severe dysregulation of organ functions, via the development of oxidative stress and inflammation damage. Polyphenol compounds found in green tea (GTE), including the most important component epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), have a great therapeutic potential. Here, protective properties of GTE and EGCG against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation are explored.

Acute intraperitoneal rupture of hydatid cysts of the liver: Case series.

Hydatid cyst is a parasitic infection caused mainly by Echinococcus granulosus, which is generally considered benign. However, the hepatic hydatid cyst rupture in the abdominal cavity is a life-threatening incident that requires urgent and multidisciplinary management (emergency physicians, radiologists, anesthetists, and surgeons). This study describes clinical and paraclinical liver hydatid cyst rupture in the peritoneal cavity and details the appropriate treatment.

Biology-oriented drug synthesis and evaluation of secnidazole esters as novel enzyme ınhibitors.

The identification of novel compounds that can inhibit physiologically and metabolically important drug targets or enzymes has prime importance in medicinal chemistry. With this aim, a range of secnidazole esters 1-30 were synthesized under the heading of biology-oriented drug synthesis by the 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole-mediated coupling reaction between secnidazole and varyingly benzoic acid derivatives. All compounds were screened for inhibitory activity against human carbonic anhydrase (hCA) I and II, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), and α-glucosidase.

Epigenetic modification, in particular DNA methylation, represents a mechanism whereby environmental effects impact on the phenotypic expression of human disease. Maternal obesity or overnutrition contributes to the alterations in DNA methylation during early life which, through fetal programming, can predispose the offspring to many metabolic and chronic diseases, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease.

Patients And Methods: In this retrospective, noncomparative, interventional study, 30 eyes of 24 progressive-keratoconus patients of both sexes aged 18-36 years old with poor best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and intolerance to contact lenses were included. All patients had been subjected to complete preoperative and postoperative ophthalmological examinations - unaided VA, BCVA, refraction, Pentacam, and contrast sensitivity examinations at 3-month, 6-month, and 1-year follow-ups.

Despite being initially considered at higher risk for severe COVID-19, sickle cell disease (SCD) patients have mostly presented clinical severity similar to the general population. As their vulnerability to become infected remains uncertain, we assessed the seroreactivity for SARS-CoV-2 to estimate the prevalence of infection and possible phenotypic and socioeconomic determinants for their contagion.
