Background: Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare and life-threatening syndrome characterized by an excessive inflammatory response. Limited data exist on adult HLH.
Methods: In this national, retrospective cohort study, we analysed data from the US National Inpatient Sample database collected between October 1, 2006 and December 31, 2019.
Background: Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS) is a premalignant plasma cell disorder which despite being clinically silent carries an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). We conducted a population-based study to investigate the risk of VTE in these patients.
Methods: We utilized the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) for the year 2016 to compare the incidence of acute VTE between patients who carry the diagnosis of MGUS and those who don't.
Background: Immunocompromised individuals with hematological malignancy have increased risk for poor outcomes and death from severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). This special population may mount a suboptimal response to vaccination. We assessed the effectiveness of tixagevimab and cilgavimab (Evusheld), a monoclonal antibody combination against SARS-CoV-2, in conjunction with standard preventative measures, at preventing symptomatic incident infection.

In this exploratory proof of concept study, our objective was to determine the prevalence of humoral immunodeficiency in patients with CLL and serum IgG ≥ 400 mg/dL, and to evaluate the efficacy of subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIG) in this population.
Patients And Methods: Patients with CLL with serum IgG ≥ 400 mg/dL were evaluated for serum IgG, IgM, IgA, along with pre/post vaccine IgG titers to diphtheria, tetanus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Long-term use of hydroxyurea can cause leg ulcers which usually do not heal unless the drug is discontinued. Patients should be counseled regarding alternative lines of treatment like anagrelide and pegylated-interferon.

We characterized immunoglobulin (Ig) levels and vaccine responses in rituximab-treated B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) patients. Patients with impaired vaccine responses were offered therapy with 20% subcutaneous (subq) Ig.

Cobalamin deficiency can closely mimic TTP and distinguishing between the two diseases can prove to be a diagnostic challenge. Previously, cobalamin-related pseudo-TTP has been associated with pernicious anemia, dietary insufficiency and hereditary disorders of cobalamin activation.

It can be inherited or develop secondary to other diseases. We present three cases of secondary HLH in patients with distinct backgrounds.

Infections are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in individuals with multiple myeloma (MM). These individuals exhibit humoral dysfunction and show a suboptimal response to pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23). Since pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) elicits a T cell dependent response, it is recommended in patients with multiple myeloma.

Compared to standard-dose influenza vaccine (SD), high-dose influenza vaccine (HD) has shown improved immunogenicity and protection against influenza illness in adults 65 years and older. This study compared the immunogenicity and tolerability of HD to SD in adults younger than 65 years of age receiving chemotherapy.

This phase 1/2 trial investigated the safety and efficacy of panobinostat in combination with melphalan for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma patients.

When combined with other anti-myeloma agents, these compounds significantly enhance clinical efficacy. High-dose steroids are frequently used in anti-myeloma combination regimens; however, the doses employed are often poorly tolerated, especially in patients with concurrent comorbid conditions.

Major advances in the management of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) include an enhanced ability to make an accurate diagnosis and define clinically meaningful prognostic groups, while improving outcome through more effective therapeutic regimens and supportive care. Nevertheless, CLL remains an incurable disorder and new, active agents are needed. Bendamustine, a unique cytotoxic agent with structural similarities to both alkylating agents and antimetabolites, was recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for treatment of CLL and rituximab-refractory indolent non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Although cases of TTP in pregnancy have been reported, the pathology of TTP in the placenta has not been described. In other organs, TTP has a distinctive pathology of arteriolar aneurysms with segmental intramural hyaline deposits.
