Background: Nodular fasciitis (NF), also known as pseudosarcoma fasciitis, is defined as a benign, self-limiting, vascular, or fibrovascular proliferation. It is commonly found on the trunk and upper extremities. NF is rarely found in the orbit and periorbital regions, with only a few case studies reported since it was initially described by Font et al.

Purpose: This study investigates pediatric keratoconus in a tertiary eye hospital in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia, aiming to understand the presenting features and treatment outcomes in this high-prevalence region. The research addresses pediatric keratoconus clinical profile and management strategies.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted from 2022 to 2023, reviewing medical records of pediatric keratoconus patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a new non-enzymatic sensor using a combination of ZnFe prussian blue analogue (ZnFe(PBA)) infused with TiCT (MXene), known as ZnFe(PBA)@TiCT, utilizing an in-situ sonication method.
  • This sensor offers benefits such as high sensitivity, fast detection, low cost, and a straightforward design, making it advantageous for electrochemical glucose detection.
  • Characterization revealed a cubic structure and good electrical response, leading to a remarkable sensitivity of 973.42 µA mM cm and a low detection limit of 3.036 µM, with a linear detection range from 0.01 to 1 mM.

This review aimed to assess the diagnostic utility of fecal calprotectin (FCP) for identifying organic gastrointestinal disease (OGID) in patients undergoing colonoscopy for gastrointestinal discomfort or active progression of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Studies published between January 2013 and December 2022 evaluating the clinical efficacy of FCP for differentiating OGID against functional gastrointestinal disease (FGID) were identified using PubMed, Cochrane, and Scopus databases. Clinical diagnostic studies involving individuals with lower gastrointestinal symptoms; using FCP as a diagnostic biomarker either in primary, secondary, or tertiary healthcare centers conducted either prospectively or retrospectively using stool samples (index test), contrasting FCP with a reference test, such as colonoscopy, or endoscopy, and assessed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were reviewed.

Article Synopsis
  • Hoarseness in school-aged children can negatively impact their education and social skills, occurring in 6% to 23% of children globally.
  • A study in Saudi Arabia aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with hoarseness, revealing a rate of 7.5% among 428 participants.
  • Key determinants included a history of excessive crying, problems with pronunciation, stuttering, and gastrointestinal reflux, which notably increases the risk of hoarseness.

We show that an SnO-based water-gate thin film transistor (WGTFT) biosensor responds to a waterborne analyte, the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, by a parallel potentiometric and capacitive mechanism. We draw our conclusion from an analysis of transistor output characteristics, which avoids the known ambiguities of the common analysis based on transfer characteristics. Our findings contrast with reports on organic WGTFT biosensors claiming a purely capacitive response due to screening effects in high ionic strength electrolytes, but are consistent with prior work that clearly shows a potentiometric response even in strong electrolytes.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast masses are frequently encountered in primary health care, particularly among women aged 40 and older, with a 24% detection rate in this study.
  • The characteristics of the breast masses and their associations with female patients' demographics indicate that factors like being overweight, the presence of a breast lump, and early menarche correlate with higher odds of having a breast mass.
  • Family physicians play a vital role in managing these cases and should refer patients for further investigation when a breast lump is reported.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to assess the volunteering of undergraduate health students and interns in the Ministry of Health (MOH) services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) during the COVID-19 pandemic, its motivational factors and barriers, as well as their risk perception of COVID-19.

Design: A cross-sectional study.

Participants: From 12 to 21 May 2020, an online survey was sent to all undergraduate health students and interns in the KSA.

The prevalence of iliac artery aneurysms is extremely rare in children. The most common etiologies for developing an aneurysm in children are infections, inflammatory diseases, and trauma. An idiopathic or congenital etiology is the least common cause in the pediatric population.
