Statin medications act by inhibiting the enzyme hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase (HMGCR), thus decreasing hepatic cholesterol synthesis. They are considered the mainstay treatment of hypercholesterolemia due to their tremendous efficacy and mortality benefit. Although generally well tolerated, statins may adversely affect skeletal muscle resulting in side effects ranging from mild myalgia to life-threatening necrotizing myositis.

COG3 encodes a constituent subunit of the COG complex that has not been associated with disease traits in humans. Herein, we report two COG3 homozygous missense variants in four individuals from two unrelated consanguineous families that co-segregated with COG3-CDG presentations.

Although still rare, pregnancy in patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) is becoming more common. Typical indications for the use of LVADs in reproductive-aged females include ischemic cardiomyopathy, nonischemic (familial) dilated cardiomyopathy, peripartum cardiomyopathy, and some forms of myocarditis.

The cases were randomized at day of ovum pickup into 2 groups: Group 1 (control group) ( = 100): conventional management with follow-up and reassessment by transvaginal ultrasound on day 5. Group 2 (interventional group) ( = 100): aspiration of the fluid was done and cases were given diosmin 500 mg 3 times per day till reassessment at embryo transfer day.

Despite the numerous synthesis methods reported in the literature over the last decades, achieving precise control over the size and shape of large nanoparticle populations remains a challenge. Since variations in size and shape significantly affect the plasmonic properties of nanoparticles, accurate metrological techniques to characterize their morphological features are essential.

Right ventricular failure due to acute right myocardial infarction is often associated with a worse prognosis. In this case, we report a patient with acute chest pain due to acute right coronary artery occlusion status post placement of multiple stents in the right coronary artery.

The study included 52 patients with MMAF syndrome and a control group of 25 fertile men. The impact of nuclear sperm quality on intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) results was studied in 20 couples.

Diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of lymphoma. It is a highly heterogeneous lymphoid neoplasm, with variations in gene expression profiles and genetic alterations. MYD88 and TP53 genes are common to be expressed and mutated in DLBCL patients with controversy regarding their role in prognosis and survival.

The High Impact Practices (HIPs) briefs and strategic planning guides aim to bridge the know-do gap in family planning (FP) by facilitating research utilization and knowledge sharing and also providing a summary of experiential knowledge from experts. The purpose of this qualitative study was to assess the use, usefulness, and application of these 2 knowledge products developed by the HIP Partnership for decision-makers and implementers in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Background: Obesity-induced dyslipidemia is one of the main factors contributing to morbidity and mortality associated with metabolic syndrome, atherosclerosis, and coronary artery disease among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Objectives: This research aimed to assess the effect of adding laser acupuncture therapy (LAT) to a Pilates exercise program (PEP) and low-calorie diet protocol (LCDP) on blood lipids among 60 obese women with SLE.
Methods: Study participants were women aged between 23 and 49 years, randomly assigned to one of two groups, A or B, each comprising 30 women.
Purpose: To evaluate the intra- and inter-device repeatability of pupil diameter measurements using three different devices in patients prior to corneal refractive surgery.
Methods: We examined preoperative measurements from a total of 204 eyes (102 patients) scheduled for corneal refractive surgery at two private centers between July and December 2021. Three consecutive scans were performed with three different devices (Sirius anterior segment analyzer, Pentacam HR, IOLMaster 500) in the same session by the same examiner under standardized conditions.
Purslane ( L.) is rich in phenolic compounds, protein, and iron. This study aims to produce functional yogurt with enhanced antioxidant, anticancer, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties by including safe purslane extract in yogurt formulation; the yogurt was preserved for 30 days at 4 °C, and then biochemical fluctuations were monitored.

Activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) and their transdifferentiation to myofibroblasts results in the accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins that form the fibrotic scar. Long noncoding (lnc) RNAs regulate the activity of HSCs and may provide targets for fibrotic therapies.

Its disruption is usually characterized by severe intrauterine and postnatal growth retardation, microcephaly and neurodevelopmental delay. The efficacy of recombinant human growth hormone treatment remains a challenge for children with IGF1 resistance and pathogenic mutations of IGF1R, with limited data in patients carrying the most severe form of IGF1R defect, the ring chromosome 15.
