Objective: To test the hypothesis that compared with daily soap and water bathing, 2% chlorhexidine gluconate bathing every other day for up to 28 days decreases the risk of hospital-acquired catheter-associated urinary tract infection, ventilator-associated pneumonia, incisional surgical site infection, and primary bloodstream infection in surgical ICU patients.

Design: This was a single-center, pragmatic, randomized trial. Patients and clinicians were aware of treatment-group assignment; investigators who determined outcomes were blinded.

Abstact The complete mitogenome sequence of the mitochondrial genome of Diptychus maculatus was amplified and analyzed in this study. It was 16,895 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 tRNA and 1 control region. Most of the genes were encoded on the heavy strand except for eight tRNA genes and DN6.

The establishment of regional trauma centers in the United States has resulted in a significant reduction in morbidity and mortality from traumatic injuries. It has also led to a decrease in the incidence of delayed diagnosis of injuries ("missed injuries"), which are not detected during the initial evaluation of these patients. The surgeon managing an acutely injured trauma patient in the initial "golden hour" is faced with leadership, organizational, diagnostic, and therapeutic challenges.

Trauma fluid resuscitation continues to be a hotly debated issue. There is overwhelming experimental evidence to suggest that administration of resuscitation fluids is not entirely innocuous. Angiosarcoma of the spleen is a rare neoplasm. We describe the clinical findings of an index case at our institution and the results of a literature review of the topic. Generally, this cancer has a poor prognosis and prompt splenectomy offers the only cure, as the cancer is poorly responsive to adjuvant chemotherapy.
