Nondestructive plant phenotyping forms a key technique for unraveling molecular processes underlying plant development and response to the environment. Nestorone® (segesterone acetate) is a progestin with a chemical structure closely related to progesterone with high affinity and selectivity for the progesterone receptor without significant interaction with other steroid receptors. It has been developed for female and male contraception and is FDA-approved in a first long-acting contraceptive vaginal system for female contraception. Its safety has been extensively demonstrated in both preclinical and clinical studies for contraceptive indications.

Mutations in T lymphocytes (T-cells) are informative quantitative markers for environmental mutagen exposures, but risk extrapolations from rodent models to humans also require an understanding of how T-cell development and proliferation kinetics impact mutagenic outcomes. Rodent studies have shown that patterns in chemical-induced mutations in the hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyltransferase (Hprt) gene of T-cells differ between lymphoid organs. The current work was performed to obtain knowledge of the relationships between maturation events during T-cell development and changes in chemical-induced mutant frequencies over time in differing immune compartments of a mouse model.

The nuclear lamina in plant cells is composed of plant-specific proteins, including nuclear matrix constituent proteins (NMCPs), which have been postulated to be functional analogs of lamin proteins that provide structural integrity to the organelle and help stabilize the three-dimensional organization of the genome. Using genomic editing, we generated alleles for the three genes encoding NMCPs in cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) to determine if the consequences of perturbing the nuclear lamina in this crop species were similar to or distinct from those observed in the model Arabidopsis thaliana. Loss of the sole NMCP2-class protein was lethal in tomato but is tolerated in Arabidopsis.

A fundamental question in mechanobiology is how living cells sense extracellular mechanical stimuli in the context of cell physiology and pathology. The cellular mechano-sensation of extracellular mechanical stimuli is believed to be through the membrane receptors, the associated protein complex, and the cytoskeleton. An increasing number of studies have demonstrated the significant roles of the interplay between microenvironmental mechanics in tissues and biochemical-genetic activities in resident tumor cells at different stages of tumor progression. Mediated by molecular mechano-sensors or -transducers, biomechanical cues in tissue microenvironments are transmitted into the tumor cells and regulate biochemical responses and gene expression through mechanotransduction processes. Study Design: We conducted a one-year multicenter, non-randomized, non-inferiority, open-label, comparative trial at 20 centers in India and compared efficacy, safety, continuation and LA plus feeding patterns and growth/well-being of participants' infants. The goal of this work was to demonstrate that Doppler ultrasound (DUS) after pharmacological stimulation of erection (PSE) can be used to evaluate the presence and intensity of a cavernovenous leak (CVL) suspected in erectile dysfunction (ED) patients. The study was built around 50 DUS-PSE exams of penile arteries and veins, which were carried out 3, 5, 10 and 20minutes after pharmacological stimulation. Measured parameters were end diastolic velocity of the cavernous arteries and mean velocity of the deep penile vein and/or penile superficial veins.

Steroid molecules have a long history of incorporation into silicone elastomer materials for controlled release drug delivery applications. Previously, based on in vitro release testing and drug content analysis, we demonstrated indirectly that the contraceptive progestin levonorgestrel (LNG) chemically and irreversibly binds to addition cure silicone elastomers, presumably via a hydrosilylation reaction between the levonorgestrel ethynyl group and the hydrosilane groups in the poly(dimethylsiloxane-co-methylhydrosiloxane) crosslinker of the silicone elastomer. Here, for the first time, we report that solid state C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy provides direct evidence for the irreversible binding of ethinyl estradiol (EE) - an estrogenic steroid molecule also containing an ethynyl functional group - to an addition cure silicone elastomer.
