Converting the resulting slash into biochar, a carbon-rich soil amendment, could help mitigate some of the shortcomings of other fuel treatments, but land managers in the western United States have not widely adopted biochar, despite its potential benefits and new government incentives. Thus, we investigated the often under-studied sociocultural, economic, and biophysical barriers to biochar production and identified important factors to inform future outreach efforts that will help to expand biochar production from thinning slash in northern New Mexico.

Aims: This study aims to introduce the OralOpioids R package, a novel research tool for the in-depth study and analysis of opioid prescriptions in Canada, which reports a significant per-capita pharmaceutical opioid consumption.
Methods: The OralOpioids R package employs data from Health Canada's Drug Product Database (DPD), focusing on authorized oral opioids. It systematically filters drug identification numbers (DINs) by narcotic schedules and administration routes.
In this study, we sought to create a database summarizing the expression of human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) in various human cancers. HERVs are suitable therapeutic targets due to their abundance in the human genome, overexpression in various malignancies, and involvement in various cancer pathways. We identified articles on HERVs from PubMed and then prescreened and automatically categorized them using the portable document format (PDF) data extractor (PDE) R package.

The present studies reexamined NaCl intake of rats with PBN lesions induced by ibotenic acid, using multiple models of salt appetite. The impairment of a conditioned taste aversion, an established consequence of PBN damage, was used as an initial screen with which to assess the effectiveness of the lesions.

That inhibitory signal is not generated by the act of swallowing, as it is in dogs and many other animals, but by visceral osmoreceptors that presumably send a vagal signal to the nucleus of the solitary tract and the area postrema in the brain stem. In further contrast to dogs, the act of water ingestion does not provide an early signal inhibiting thirst in rats, but gastric emptying is so rapid that thirst can be satiated relatively quickly.
