A comparative proteomic analysis of drought-responsive proteins during grain development of two wheat varieties Kauz (strong resistance to drought stress) and Janz (sensitive to drought stress) was performed by using linear and nonlinear 2-DE and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry technologies. Results revealed that the nonlinear 2-DE had much higher resolution than the linear 2-DE. A total of 153 differentially expressed protein spots were detected by both 2-DE maps, of which 122 protein spots were identified by MALDI-TOF and MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometry.

Histopathological classification of human prostate cancer (PCA) relies on the morphological assessment of tissue specimens but has limited prognostic value. To address this deficiency, we performed comparative transcriptome analysis of human prostatic acini generated in a three-dimensional basement membrane that recapitulates the differentiated morphological characteristics and gene expression profile of a human prostate glandular epithelial tissue. Pharmacotherapy was invalid, and subsequent application of atrial pacing reversed the cardiogenic shock. To test the expression and localization of aquaporins 8 (AQP8) and 9 (AQP9) in human term fetal membranes and placenta in both oligohydramnios and normal amniotic fluid volume (AFV) groups and to explore the association between aquaporin expression and oligohydramnios. Real-time polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry were used to determine AQP8 and AQP9 expression levels and localization in amnion, chorion, and placenta, respectively. In addition, compared with the normal AFV group, the expression levels of both AQP8 and AQP9 in amnion in oligohydramnios group were significantly decreased, while their expressions in placenta were significantly increased.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) treatment suppressed proliferation, colony formation, and cell cycle progression in PC-3 human prostate cancer cells. CAPE decreased protein expression of cyclin D1, cyclin E, SKP2, c-Myc, Akt1, Akt2, Akt3, total Akt, mTOR, Bcl-2, Rb, as well as phosphorylation of Rb, ERK1/2, Akt, mTOR, GSK3α, GSK3β, PDK1; but increased protein expression of KLF6 and p21(Cip1). Microarray analysis indicated that pathways involved in cellular movement, cell death, proliferation, and cell cycle were affected by CAPE.

Objective: To develop a transparent, non-toxic, non-irritating anti-fogging agent with long-lasting effect for nasal endoscopy.

Methods: The anti-fogging agent was prepared by mixing ethanol, propylene glycol, polyoxyethylene lauryl ether, sodium dodecyl sulfate, polyethylene glycol 400 and deionized water at different proportions based on an orthogonal test design. Aging is associated with bone loss and degenerative joint diseases, in which the aging of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (bmMSC)[1] may play an important role. In this study, we analyzed the gene expression profiles of bmMSC from 14 donors between 36 and 74 years old, and obtained age-associated genes (in the background of osteoarthritis) and osteoarthritis-associated genes (in the background of old age). Pathway analysis of these genes suggests that alterations in glycobiology might play an important role in the aging of human bmMSC.

Epigenetic inactivation of tumor-suppressor genes, often in association with aberrant DNA methylation of CpG islands in the promoter region of these genes, is a key factor in tumorigenesis. CCAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha (CEBPA) methylation is a favorable prognostic biomarker for acute myeloid leukemia; however, rather than the complete methylation observed in inherited disorders, CEBPA methylation is heterogeneous.
