Background: Indigenous peoples with substance use disorders (SUD) and intergenerational trauma (IGT) face complex healthcare needs. Therefore understanding Indigenous patient experiences is crucial for enhancing care delivery, fostering engagement, and achieving optimal outcomes, yet few studies explore the motivations for seeking, staying in, and utilizing treatment from an Indigenous perspective. The goal of this study was to understand the patient experience with an abstinence-based treatment model in a residential treatment setting.

Depression, Anxiety, and Neuropsychiatric Symptom Burden in a Longitudinal Cohort with Persistent Psychophysical Post-COVID Olfactory Dysfunction.

Background/objectives: Olfactory dysfunction (OD) is associated with a variety of neurologic deficits and impacts socialization decisions, mood, and overall quality of life. As a common symptom comprising the long COVID condition, persistent COVID-19-associated olfactory dysfunction (C19OD) may further impact the presentations of neuropsychiatric sequelae. Our study aims to characterize the longitudinal burden of depression, anxiety, and neuropsychiatric symptoms in a population with C19OD.

Accounting for the impact of genotype and environment on variation in leaf respiration of wheat in Mexico and Australia.

An approach to improving radiation use efficiency (RUE) in wheat is to screen for variability in rates of leaf respiration in darkness (Rdark). We used a high-throughput system to quantify variation in Rdark among a diverse range of spring wheat genotypes (301 lines) grown in two countries (Mexico and Australia) and two seasons (2017 and 2018), and in doing so quantify the relative importance of genotype (G) and environment (E) in influencing variations in leaf Rdark. Through careful design, residual (unexplained) variation represented less than 10% of the total observed.

Breastfeeding disparities and recommended strategies to end them in New York.

Objective: The objective of this study was to identify strategies to address breastfeeding disparities across New York in the United States.

Methods: Data were collected from August-December 2021 using a qualitative research design that included 45 key informant interviews and 253 online questionnaires.

Results: Ninety-six percent of participants lived in or represented New York, and four percent were national experts.

Objectives: Dynamic and adaptive services that provide timely access to care are pivotal to ensuring patients with palliative needs experience high-quality care. Patients who have palliative care needs may require symptomatic relief with medicines and, therefore, may engage with community pharmacists frequently. However, there is limited evidence for pharmacists' involvement in community palliative care models.

A streamlined pathway for transcatheter aortic valve implantation: the BENCHMARK study.

Background And Aims: There is significant potential to streamline the clinical pathway for patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of implementing BENCHMARK best practices on the efficiency and safety of TAVI in 28 sites in 7 European countries.

Methods: This was a study of patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (AS) undergoing TAVI with balloon-expandable valves before and after implementation of BENCHMARK best practices.

Objective: A paucity of data exists on how transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) practice has evolved in Ireland. This study sought to analyse temporal trends in patient demographics, procedural characteristics, and clinical outcomes at an Irish tertiary referral centre.

Methods: The prospective Mater TAVI database was divided into time tertiles based on when TAVI was performed: Group A, November 2008-April 2013; Group B, April 2013-September 2017; and Group C, September 2017-February 2022.

Background: Residency programs are required to offer a didactic curriculum and protect resident time for education. Our institution implemented an academic half day (AHD) in the 2021-2022 academic year to address issues related to the standard noon conference series.

Background: The multicentre European Bifurcation Club Trial (EBC TWO) showed no significant differences in 12-month clinical outcomes between patients randomised to a provisional stenting strategy or systematic culotte stenting in non-left main true bifurcations.

Aims: This study aimed to investigate the 5-year clinical results of the EBC TWO Trial.

Methods: A total of 200 patients undergoing stent implantation for non-left main bifurcation lesions were recruited into EBC TWO.

Do young adults complete health care proxies before anesthesia?

Background: Health care proxy (HCP) completion rates by older adults are relatively low; however, not much is known about proxy completion rates by younger adults.

Objectives: This study aimed to identify HCP completion rates amongst 18-21 year old young adults without intellectual disabilities admitted to a pediatric hospital peri-anesthesia care unit (PACU) and determine whether there was an association with any demographic factors.

Introduction: Several published studies have reported an association between the Glu298Asp polymorphism (rs1799983), residing in the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS3) gene, and lower levels of circulating nitric oxide, as well as an increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). However, association status of this genetic variant with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or premature CAD (PCAD) is still unclear. Against this background, we conducted a systematic review and study level meta-analysis to assess the association of the NOS3 Glu298Asp polymorphism with ACS or PCAD.
