We studied the effects of single and combined action of protons and carbon ions C on the pool of MCF-7 human breast cancer stem cells. Single irradiation with a beam of protons or carbon ions had no significant effects on the relative number of cancer stem cells (CSC). The effects of combined irradiation in a total equieffective dose of 4 Gy depended on the sequence of exposure to ionizing radiations: the relative number of CSC did not change after irradiation with carbon ions and then with protons, but increased in the case of the reverse sequence.

Proton and ion radiation therapy, when used both as single radiation and in mixed radiation mode, have a number of advantages over the conventional γ-therapy that are determined by physical characteristics of accelerated particles. The paper presents the results of an in vitro study of the effectiveness of sequential exposures of Chinese hamster tumor cells B14-150 to proton (p) and C ion beams. We used 4 irradiation schemes differing by the sequence of exposure and the contribution of each radiation to the total dose.

Fast neutron therapy, which previously has demonstrated effective results, but along with a large number of complications, can again be considered a promising treatment method in the treatment of cancer. One of the ways of analyzing the relative biological efficiency and accurate biological dose of fast neutrons in body tissues is to improve the algorithms of computational biology and mathematical modeling. A high-performance computing code was written which allows to estimate in real-time mode the biological dose of the proton component from the action of neutron radiation with an energy of 14.

B820 subunits from a purple sulfur bacterium Ectothiorhodospira. haloalkaliphila strain ATCC 51935T were obtained by treatment of Carotenoid free LH I-RC complexes of this bacterium with P--octylglu- copyranoside (β-OG). The same complexes with 100% carotenoid content were unable to dissociate to B820 subunits, but disintegrated to monomeric bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) regardless of their carotenoid compo- sition.

Size exclusion chromatography was used to assess the relative size of intact and diphenylamine-treated (DPA, with suppressed carotenoid synthesis) peripheral light-harvesting complexes (LH2 complexes) of the sulfurbacterium Allochromatium minutissimum. Both LH2 complexes were nonamers and had the same elution volume V(e), coinciding with that for the LH2 complex of Rhodoblastus acidophilus (strain 10050). Their molecular mass was 150 kDa.

A collection of spring hexaploid triticale varieties and promising breeding lines has been examined for the presence of wheat Rht-B1b, Rht-B1e, and Rht8c semidwarfing genes and the rye Hl semidwarfing gene. It was discovered in spring triticale that these semidwarfing genes are represented by only one, the Rht-B1b wheat gene. The presence of this gene is associated with shortening of spring triticale plants by 28 cm on average, which constituted 26% of their initial height.

On the basis of counting and mapping of nests of the rook, hooded crow, and magpie in Kirov in 1975-2012, it was found that, under the conditions of an industrial city, rook colonies are highly unstable. The elimination of the private sector and neglected tree and scrub thickets leads to a reduction in the number of magpies nesting in the city. The nesting abundance of crows is limited by the quarter layout and placement of containers for household waste.

The article presents the systematization of data concerning alcohol-depended mortality as a occurrence with complicated structure. It is established that grouping of alcohol-depended mortality on isolated components is conditioned by different nature of unhealthy consumption of alcohol in the development of alcohol-depended conditions as a conditional and/or supporting factor. Among other causation factors article points out the input of pattern of alcohol consumption into the value of risk of development of alcohol-attributive conditions and two-way impact of unhealthy alcohol consumption at the risk of development of particular alcohol-attributive conditions.
