Here we report a strategy for conjugating electron-rich (hetero)arenes to polypeptides and proteins. Our bioconjugation technique exploits the electrophilic reactivity of an oxidized selenocysteine residue in polypeptides and proteins, and the electron-rich character of certain small molecules to provide bioconjugates in excellent yields under mild conditions.

Design: The Integrating Pharmacogenetics in Clinical Care (I-PICC) Study is a pseudo-cluster randomized controlled trial of SLCO1B1 genotyping among statin-naïve primary care and women's health patients across the Veteran Affairs Boston Healthcare System. Eligible patients of enrolled primary care providers are aged 40-75 and have elevated risk of cardiovascular disease by American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (ACC/AHA) guidelines.

African Americans have been understudied within the context of LDCT and smoking cessation. Design: A qualitative longitudinal design was adopted whereby focus groups were conducted with the same participants in each intervention school (n=3) at four time-points (baseline, end of each of two intervention phases and 1-year follow-up). The framework method was used to thematically analyse the data.

We report the development of a method to parameterize and predict the performance of structurally flexible β-turn-containing peptide catalysts, using the atroposelective bromination of 3-arylquinazolin-4(3H)-ones as a case study. The multivariate correlations obtained for tetrapeptides of two β-turn types, type I' pre-helical and type II' β-hairpin, indicate that although one conformer may be associated with a more dominant contribution to the observed enantioselectivity, it is possible that multiple conformers contribute to a complex transition state ensemble.

The peptide is shown to play a dual role; the terminal carboxylic acid assists the iron center in the efficient HO activation step, while its β-turn structure is crucial to induce high enantioselectivity in the oxygen delivering step. The high levels of stereoselection (84-92% ee) obtained by these supramolecular catalysts in the epoxidation of 1,1'-alkyl orthosubstituted styrenes, a notoriously challenging class of substrates for asymmetric catalysis, are not attainable with any other epoxidation methodology described so far.
