Who was actually the director of the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry at Balassa Street, for a long time also referred to as the Moravcsik Clinic? A polymath, a genius, or rather a knight of fortune who wanted to draw attention to himself by building a clinic for himself? We looked into this on the occasion of his death anniversary. How did he get from the head of the department to the founding of the Psychiatry and Neurology Clinic? He dreamed up every corner of the Department, which was the most impressive and patient-friendly clinic of its time even in European terms. The building was not only used for the recovery of patients, but also for the continuous medical training of doctors.

Use and Costs of Supplemental Benefits in Medicare Advantage, 2017-2021.

Importance: Nearly all Medicare Advantage (MA) plans offer dental, vision, and hearing benefits not covered by traditional Medicare (TM). However, little is known about MA enrollees' use of those benefits or how much they cost MA insurers or enrollees.

Objective: To estimate use, out-of-pocket (OOP) spending, and insurer payments for dental, hearing, and vision services among Medicare beneficiaries.

Argonaute proteins regulate the timing of the spermatogenic transcriptional program.

Argonaute proteins are best known for their role in microRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing. Here, we show that AGO3 and AGO4, but not AGO2, localize to the sex chromatin of pachytene spermatocytes where they are required for transcriptional silencing of XY-linked genes, known as Meiotic Sex Chromosome Inactivation (MSCI). Using an mouse, we show that AGO3 and AGO4 are key regulators of spermatogenesis, orchestrating expression of meiosis-related genes during prophase I while maintaining silencing of spermiogenesis genes.

Application scenarios for a mobile hearing aid demonstrator with headphone form factor.

Objective: To describe application scenarios of a mobile device that provides a practical means for showcasing potential hearing aid benefits.

Design: A prototype of a hearing aid demonstrator based on circumaural headphones and a mobile signal processing platform was developed, providing core functions of a hearing aid, including several gain presets, in a hygienic, robust, and easy-to-use form factor. Speech intelligibility outcomes with the demonstrator and broadband level adaptations as potential fitting references were compared to outcomes with the own hearing aids of hearing-impaired participants.

Revolutionizing Diabetic Retinopathy Screening: Integrating AI-Based Retinal Imaging in Primary Care.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a public health issue affecting millions in the United States and Europe. However, despite strong recommendations for screening at regular intervals by many professional societies, including the American Diabetes Association and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, screening rates remain suboptimal, with only 50-70% of patients with diabetes adhering to recommended annual eye exams. Barriers to screening include lack of awareness, socioeconomic factors, health care system fragmentation, and workforce shortages, among others.

Estimating the number and incidence of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales infections in France in 2020: A capture-recapture study.

Objectives: Even though France faces few severe infections due to carbapenem-producing Enterobacterales (CPE), inter-regional epidemic stages render their dissemination a cause for considerable concern. CPE reporting relies in France on three non-exhaustive monitoring systems (MS): an early-alert system, a nationwide passive surveillance system and the National Reference Centre. We aim to estimate the number and incidence of CPE-related infections in France in 2020 and to identify any overlap between the three systems to determine whether their continued use still serves a purpose.

Does what we find depend on how we sample? Measured streambed microplastic concentrations can be affected by the choice of sampling method.

Microplastics (MPs) are prevalent in rivers worldwide and can adversely impact riverine ecosystems. To sample for MPs in streambeds, a variety of different sampling techniques is applied, including (i) scooping, (ii) coring, (iii) freeze coring, (iv) resuspension method, and (v) piezometer sampling. These common sampling techniques capture different parts of the streambed and different sampling volumes.

A stroke imaging protocol in patients with a history of contrast-induced anaphylaxis.

The need for emergent, contrast-enhanced neuroimaging in stroke patients with a history of severe reaction to iodinated contrast represents a unique dilemma in emergency departments. There is currently a lack of evidence-based management protocols for these cases. We describe a protocol established at our institution, based off American College of Radiology (ACR) guidelines and institutional experience, to guide decision-making in these scenarios.

Electrospun Poly(vinylidene fluoride) Nanocomposites with Ionic Liquid Functionalized Graphene Nanoplatelets by a Noncovalent Method for Piezoresistive Pressure Sensor Applications.

Piezoresistive pressure sensors have been prepared by the electrospinning of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) containing graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) functionalized using 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate (BMIM(OTf)) ionic liquid (IL). Optical microscopy demonstrated that the functionalized GNP powder presented particles with a smaller lateral size. The obtained mats were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, electrical resistivity using two and four probes, and electromechanical testing with up to 32 load-unload cycles.

Characterizations of Nuclear Organization and Chromatin Modifications in Mature Embryos from Arabidopsis Dry Seeds.

Embryo development and seed germination are characterized by important alterations in nuclear and chromatin organization. It is however challenging to analyze these dynamic changes because the Arabidopsis embryo is embedded in the seed coat and a layer of endosperm tissue and is therefore difficult to access. Here, we describe a protocol to analyze nuclear organization in whole-mount dry seed embryos from Arabidopsis thaliana and to investigate the distribution of histone variants and modifications using immunostaining on isolated embryo nuclei.

NK cells offer a promising alternative to T cell therapies in cancer. We evaluated IPH6501, a clinical-stage, tetraspecific NK cell engager (NKCE) armed with a non-alpha IL-2 variant (IL-2v), which targets CD20 and was developed for treating B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL). CD20-NKCE-IL2v boosts NK cell proliferation and cytotoxicity, showing activity against a range of B-NHL cell lines, including those with low CD20 density.

Network meta-analysis examining efficacy of components of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia.

Cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBTI) is recommended as first-line treatment for insomnia. CBT-I is a multi-component intervention comprising psychoeducation, sleep restriction, stimulus control, cognitive, and relaxation therapy. The relative efficacy of its components has yet to be investigated with state-of-the-art meta-analytic methods.

Increased trends in reported sexually transmitted infections according to age groups and sex in Spain, 2016-2022.

Objective: Our objective was to assess trends in three sexually transmitted infections (STIs) - gonorrhoea, chlamydia and syphilis - in Spain, by age group and sex from 2016 to 2022.

Study Design: Retrospective observational study.

Methods: Data from epidemiological surveillance system were used to calculate the incidence rate for each STIs by age group and sex.

Behavioural profiling following acute stress uncovers associations with future stress sensitivity and past childhood abuse.

Individuals greatly differ in their responses to acute stress, ranging from resilience to vulnerability that may yield stress-related psychopathology. Stress-related psychopathologies involve, by definition, substantial modifications across multiple behavioural domains, including impaired cognitive, affective and social functioning. Nevertheless, and despite extensive investigation of individual variability in stress responsivity, no study to date simultaneously assessed the impact of acute stress across multiple behavioural domains within a given individual.
