Background: The impact on infant bone, growth, and renal health of in utero and breastmilk exposure to contemporary antiretroviral treatment (ART) remains unclear.

Methods: 643 pregnant women with HIV in nine countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas were randomized to start ART with dolutegravir (DTG) + emtricitabine (FTC)/tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), DTG + FTC/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), or efavirenz (EFV)/FTC/TDF between 14-28 weeks' gestation and continued for 50 weeks postpartum. Pairwise comparisons used two-sample t-tests of mean week 26 infant bone mineral content (BMC) assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in a subset; mean infant z-scores for length-for-age (LAZ), weight-for-age (WAZ), and weight-for-length (WLZ) at 26 and 50 weeks; and mean infant creatinine and estimated creatinine clearance at birth and 26 weeks.

Auxetic structures studied in the literature are often based on relatively stiff, metallic materials and theories regarding their response to mechanical loading cannot be translated directly to polymeric materials. As "soft" auxetics increase in popularity for applications in tissue engineering further investigation into the joint behaviour and effect on their Poisson's ratio is required. 3D printed polypropylene auxetic mesh structures were produced to compare to the requirements for biological cell-stretching devices while investigating the deformation mechanics.

The utility of halogen radicals in hydrocarbon functionalization extends from early examples of photochemical halogenation to recent reports using photoredox catalysis with iridium complexes and simple transition metal salts such as FeCl. The majority of these methods (uncatalyzed and iron-catalyzed) require UV light (λ ≤ 390 nm), and systematic efforts to enable the use of visible light remain valuable. We report the use of a simple Fe(III) salt that enables a C-H to C-C and C-N functionalization under visible light.

Introduction: The Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention is a data sharing approach aiming to reduce violence-related presentations to emergency departments (EDs). This model has not previously been tested with patients attending EDs in a major Australian urban setting, nor has the use of media reporting of results and letters to venues without a local violence prevention board been tested.

Objective: To determine this approach's effect on alcohol-associated presentation rates during high-alcohol hours (HAHs) in a major ED servicing the nightlife district in central Melbourne.

Muscle mass and strength are crucial for physiological function and performance in athletes, playing a significant role in maintaining health and optimal athletic performance. Skeletal muscle, which constitutes the majority of lean soft tissue (LST) and appendicular lean soft tissue (ALST) when measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), represents a commonly used surrogate for strength. Research has investigated alternative measures of body composition, such as the assessment of ALST through bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and the determination of whole-body muscle mass from creatine pool size using the deuterated creatine (DCr) dilution method, for their associations to strength.

Learning induces gene expression and memory consolidation requires new protein synthesis. Many of these activity-induced genes are transcription factors. One of the exceptions is a key immediate early gene, Arc, which has been implicated in several forms of synaptic plasticity and is critical for long-term memory formation.

Metal contamination (MC) is a growing environmental issue, with metals altering biotic and metabolic pathways and entering the human body through contaminated food, water and inhalation. With continued population growth and industrialisation, MC poses an exacerbating risk to human health and ecosystems. Metal contamination in the environment is expected to continue to increase, requiring effective remediation approaches and harmonised monitoring programmes to significantly reduce the impact on health and the environment.

This study proposes a novel approach for viral infectious disease surveillance using Google Trends data to model wastewater virus concentrations, providing a rapid, low-cost method for indicating outbreaks. Google Trends search terms were found to correlate strongly with wastewater viral concentrations and clinical cases for influenza A and respiratory syncytial virus ( = 0.76 and 0.

Objective: This review assesses the progress of NLP in gastroenterology to date, grades the robustness of the methodology, exposes the field to a new generation of authors, and highlights opportunities for future research.

Design: Seven scholarly databases (ACM Digital Library, Arxiv, Embase, IEEE Explore, Pubmed, Scopus and Google Scholar) were searched for studies published between 2015 and 2023 that met the inclusion criteria. Studies lacking a description of appropriate validation or NLP methods were excluded, as were studies ufinavailable in English, those focused on non-gastrointestinal diseases and those that were duplicates.

Ubiquinone (UQ), the only known electron carrier in the mammalian electron transport chain (ETC), preferentially delivers electrons to the terminal electron acceptor oxygen (O). In hypoxia, ubiquinol (UQH) diverts these electrons onto fumarate instead. Here, we identify rhodoquinone (RQ), an electron carrier detected in mitochondria purified from certain mouse and human tissues that preferentially delivers electrons to fumarate through the reversal of succinate dehydrogenase, independent of environmental O levels.

Body composition prediction from 3D optical imagery has previously been studied with linear algorithms. In this study, we present a novel application of deep 3D convolutional graph networks and nonlinear Gaussian process regression for human body shape parameterization and body composition estimation. We trained and tested linear and nonlinear models with ablation studies on a novel ensemble body shape dataset containing 4286 scans.

Introduction: Hispanic/Latinx (hereafter Hispanic) individuals who smoke have challenges in quitting and a disproportionate risk of smoking-related health problems when compared to the general population. The smoking inequalities among the Hispanic population are influenced by limited treatment access and chronic stress exposure (e.g.

Importance: The most used overactive bladder (OAB) medications are anticholinergics, which professional societies recommend avoiding in older patients given dementia risk. Cost prevents patients from switching to preferred beta-3 agonists. Mirabegron was the only beta-3 agonist eligible for the Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) 2023 Drug Negotiation Program (DNP).

We present a technique called photoacoustic vector-flow (PAVF) to quantify the speed and direction of flowing optical absorbers at each pixel from acoustic-resolution PA images. By varying the receiving angle at each pixel in post-processing, we obtain multiple estimates of the phase difference between consecutive frames. These are used to solve the overdetermined photoacoustic Doppler equation with a least-squares approach to estimate a velocity vector at each pixel.

Development of artificial intelligence (AI) for medical imaging demands curation and cleaning of large-scale clinical datasets comprising hundreds of thousands of images. Some modalities, such as mammography, contain highly standardized imaging. In contrast, breast ultrasound imaging (BUS) can contain many irregularities not indicated by scan metadata, such as enhanced scan modes, sonographer annotations, or additional views.

Many think that a specific aspect of phenomenal consciousness-valenced or affective experience-is essential to consciousness's moral significance (valence sentientism). They hold that valenced experience is necessary for well-being, or moral status, or psychological intrinsic value (or all three). Some think that phenomenal consciousness generally is necessary for non-derivative moral significance (broad sentientism).
