The metabolism of glioma cells exhibits significant heterogeneity and is partially responsible for treatment outcomes. Given this variability, we hypothesized that the effectiveness of treatments targeting various metabolic pathways depends on the bioenergetic profiles and mitochondrial status of glioma cells. We enrolled 231 patients [mean age 9 years old (range 2-17); male:female ratio 3·4:1] with Burkitt (BL, 179 patients, 76·7%), diffuse large B-cell (32 patients, 14%), primary mediastinal B-cell (14 patients, 6%), and other (6 patients, 2·6%) B-cell lymphomas in a prospective study of immuno-chemotherapy. Stages were I-II in 32% and III-IV in 68% of the patients.

Subjects And Methods: The analysis covered 1064 primary patients aged to 1 to 18 years with ALL who had been registered at the clinics of Russia and Belorussia in April 2002 to November 2006. Before induction therapy, the patients were randomized into a dexamethasone (DEXA) 6 mg/m2 group (n=539) and a methylprednisolone (MePRED) 60 mg/m2 one (n=525).
Identification of cytokinins in differentiated leaf cells has received little attention. We have carried out immunohistochemical localization of cytokinins in leaves of transgenic tobacco plants in which the level of increased due to induced in their roots the expression of ipt-gene controlling cytokinin synthesis. Immuno-labeling of cytokinins with the help of antibodies raised against zeatin riboside was characteristic of mesophyll cells.

Cholesterol of high density lipoprotein (HDL) subfractions (HDL2 and HDL3), activity of cholesterol ester transport protein (CETP), and standard lipoprotein parameters (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol) were measured in plasma of 192 patients with various psoriasis forms, which included simple "distributed psoriasis", erythrodermic and arthropathic psoriasis. Among psoriatic patients unusually high percent of persons with both hypo- and hyper-cholesterolemia was observed. The same situation was observed with frequency of cases with both low and high plasma HDL cholesterol levels, the distribution being depending from disease severity.

Stable remission was achieved in 16 patients who exhibited normalization of peripheral blood characteristics including total protein and protein plasma fractions, lowering of CIC and middle molecular peptides concentration. The response was also obtained in severe psoriasis (psoriatic erythrodermia and arthropathic psoriasis).

The levels of free and total CS in extracts from the surface of epidermis, in plasma lipoproteins, and in plasma triglycerides were measured, and the molar ratio CS/ phospholipids (CS/PL index) in red cell membranes assessed in 194 patients with psoriasis of different severity. The levels of free and total CS in the epidermis were found to increase as the psoriatic process grew in severity.

The efferent methods used proved beneficial in 99 (60%) of the patients that got to have normal hemograms, reduced CIC and middle molecular weight peptides levels in blood. The response depended on the disease duration irrespectively of the method of efferent treatment.
