Mass casualty triage is the process of prioritizing multiple victims when resources are not sufficient to treat everyone immediately. No national guideline for mass casualty triage exists in the United States. The lack of a national guideline has resulted in variability in triage processes, tags, and nomenclature.

The purpose of the study was to report a case of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to ocular toxoplasmosis in an 18-year-old female patient. She was treated with a single intravitreal injection of ranibizumab. The CNV resolved as confirmed by fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

The percutaneous transradial approach for cardiac catheterization has been shown to be a safe alternative to femoral artery approach, owing to the favorable anatomical relation of the radial artery to surrounding structures and the dual blood supply to the hand. Selection of guide catheter is elementary but an issue of extreme importance in performance of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) and depends on the size of aorta, location of ostia on the aorta, the kind of back-up required and whether the artery arises from a normal origin or anomalously. Currently a variety of guiding catheters are available, each with a unique design and construction, which has vastly improved the technique of transradial PCI.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has reached epidemic proportions, and there is an unmet medical need for orally effective agents that regulate glucose homeostasis. GPR119, a class-A (rhodopsin-like) G protein-coupled receptor expressed primarily in the pancreas and gastrointestinal tract, has attracted considerable interest as a T2D drug target in recent years. The activation of GPR119 increases the intracellular accumulation of cAMP, leading to enhanced glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells and increased release of the gut peptides GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide 1), GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide) and PYY (polypeptide YY).

We report a case of a 30-year-old immunocompromised human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) sero-positive male who was referred to us with complaints of cough, breathlessness and left-sided chestpain for the past two months. The PPSS can be confirmed on tru-cut biopsy.

This short report explores if there was any subsequent improvement on how the formulations used in trials involving children <12 years reported in the same journals. Studies published between 2004 and 2008 were hand-searched and classified as containing adequate, some or no formulation information.

Antagonism of the adenosine A2A receptor has emerged as a promising non-dopaminergic approach for the potential treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). Several pharmaceutical and academic institutions have ongoing research programs in this area, and orally efficacious A2A receptor antagonists have been advanced into clinical development. Traditionally, antagonists of the A2A receptor are classified as xanthine and non-xanthine derivatives.

Primum non nocere- "Above all do no harm." Since the first year of medical school, we have all heard and spoken this dictum countless times. Translating this dictum into action may present challenges in our daily practice.

In the same birth cohort, we examined associations of size at birth (weight, length and ponderal index), and gestational age, with cardiometabolic risk factors in childhood across all antenatal micronutrient interventions. There was an inverse association between birth weight and systolic blood pressure (SBP, β = -1.

UBM, an extracellular matrix prepared from urinary bladder, has intricate three-dimensional architecture with two distinct sides: the luminal side with a smoother surface relief; and the abluminal side with a fine mesh of nano- and microfibers. This study tested the ability of this natural scaffold to support functional cardiomyocyte networks, and probed how the local microtopography and composition of the two sides affects cell function.

We wish to report herein the discovery of novel azabicyclic sulfonamide based 11beta-HSD1 inhibitors. Highly potent compounds exhibiting inhibitory activities at both human and mouse 11beta-HSD1 were identified.

Method: Case report of an 8-month-old infant who presented to the emergency department with fever, drooling, and massive cervical and mediastinal adenopathy. Safe anesthetic management allowed for cervical lymph node biopsy, which showed Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

The environment in which otolaryngologists coexist with device and drug development has become increasingly complex. There are broad implications for both the academic and the private practitioner, with neither group being more or less insulated than the other. From the medical, ethical, and resource-oriented standpoints, otolaryngologists must consider this evolving area very carefully.

A series of novel 2-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)pyrimidine derivatives has been reported as COX-2 inhibitors. In order to understand the structural requirement of these COX-2 inhibitors, a ligand-based pharmacophore and atom-based 3D-QSAR model have been developed.
