Introduction: Mu-opioid receptors (MORs) are G-coupled protein receptors with a high affinity for both endogenous and exogenous opioids. MORs are widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral organs, and the immune system. They mediate pain and reward and have been implicated in the pathophysiology of opioid, cocaine, and other substance use disorders.

The poly(adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (PARPi) have demonstrated efficacy in ovarian, breast, and prostate cancers, but current biomarkers do not consistently predict clinical benefit. F-fluorthanatrace (F-FTT) is an analog to rucaparib, a clinically approved PARPi, and is a candidate biomarker for PARPi response. This study intends to characterize F-FTT pharmacokinetics in breast cancer and optimize image timing for clinical trials.

Relationship of Ketosis With Myocardial Glucose Uptake Among Patients Undergoing FDG PET/CT for Evaluation of Cardiac Sarcoidosis.

Background: Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) with positron emission tomography (PET) is the standard for detecting myocardial inflammation in cardiac sarcoidosis, requiring preparation with the ketogenic diet (KD) to achieve myocardial glucose suppression. Despite this, incomplete myocardial glucose suppression remains a significant issue, and strategies to reduce myocardial glucose uptake (MGU) and identify incomplete myocardial glucose suppression are required. This study sought to understand the relationship between point-of-care beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) and different patterns of MGU and between KD and fasting duration with MGU in patients undergoing evaluation for cardiac sarcoidosis.

Natural Health Community Program and Well-Being: An Uncontrolled Study of Women Survivors of Domestic Violence.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate a local natural healing service program and to explore how engagement in natural healing services related to the well-being of survivors of domestic violence. Using longitudinal secondary data, we conducted -tests, regression, and correlation analysis on three measures (hope, distress, and empowerment) that were completed by the participants ( = 31). We provided evidence of the positive impact of a community-based natural healing services program on the well-being of survivors of domestic violence, specifically their sense of hope.

Controlling the broadband enhanced light chirality with L-shaped dielectric metamaterials.

The inherently weak chiroptical responses of natural materials limit their usage for controlling and enhancing chiral light-matter interactions. Recently, several nanostructures with subwavelength scale dimensions were demonstrated, mainly due to the advent of nanofabrication technologies, as a potential alternative to efficiently enhance chirality. However, the intrinsic lossy nature of metals and the inherent narrowband response of dielectric planar thin films or metasurface structures pose severe limitations toward the practical realization of broadband and tailorable chiral systems.

Calcified chondroid mesenchymal neoplasm: report of a case involving the temporomandibular joint region and review of the literature.

The calcified chondroid mesenchymal neoplasm (CCMN) represents a recently recognized tumor type with only 50 well-documented cases in the English-language literature. Herein we report an additional case of CCMN presenting as a large mass in the temporomandibular joint region of a 41-year-old female. A review of previously reported cases and the current case of CCMN shows the following features: 1) average age 52 years (range 14-87 years) and an approximately even sex distribution; 2) most frequently involved sites: distal extremities (including foot, hand, wrist, forearm) (n=41) and temporomandibular joint/temporal/parotid region (n=9); 3) multilobular soft tissue tumor with chondroid to cartilaginous matrix, often grungy or lace-like calcifications, and variable cytologic atypia; 4) frequently detected FN1 rearrangement (n=15), including FN1 fusion with FGFR2 (n=7) or other receptor tyrosine kinases; 5) 2 reported local recurrences (after incomplete excision); 6) no reports of malignant biologic behavior.

Liking music with and without sadness: Testing the direct effect hypothesis of pleasurable negative emotion.

Negative emotion evoked in listeners of music can produce intense pleasure, but we do not fully understand why. The present study addressed the question by asking participants (n = 50) to self-select a piece of sadness-evoking music that was loved. The key part of the study asked participants to imagine that the felt sadness could be removed.

FDG PET/CT Imaging 1 Week after a Single Dose of Pembrolizumab Predicts Treatment Response in Patients with Advanced Melanoma.

Purpose: Immunologic response to anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) therapy can occur rapidly with T-cell responses detectable in as little as one week. Given that activated immune cells are FDG avid, we hypothesized that an early FDG PET/CT obtained approximately 1 week after starting pembrolizumab could be used to visualize a metabolic flare (MF), with increased tumor FDG activity due to infiltration by activated immune cells, or a metabolic response (MR), due to tumor cell death, that would predict response.

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a complex and pervasive public health problem disproportionately affecting Indigenous and Black women. During the COVID-19 pandemic, IPV became more complicated for advocates because social distancing, quarantine, and isolation measures further endangered women experiencing IPV. This manuscript is based on an ongoing community-engaged study in an upper Midwestern state.

Ferromagnetic resonators synthesized by metal-organic decomposition epitaxy.

Metal-organic decomposition epitaxy is an economical wet-chemical approach suitable to synthesize high-quality low-spin-damping films for resonator and oscillator applications. This work reports the temperature dependence of ferromagnetic resonances and associated structural and magnetic quantities of yttrium iron garnet nanofilms that coincide with single-crystal values. Despite imperfections originating from wet-chemical deposition and spin coating, the quality factor for out-of-plane and in-plane resonances approaches 600 and 1000, respectively, at room temperature and 40 GHz.

Performance anxiety is a widespread issue that can affect musicians across their education and career. It can develop in musicians from a young age leading to short-term and long-term impacts on not only their performance, but also their wellbeing. There is potentially a significant role that music educators hold in the development of their students and how they handle performance anxiety, though it is not clear how, or how often, teachers support their students in this way.

Objectives: To examine the tolerability and effectiveness of medicinal cannabis prescribed to patients for chronic, refractory pain, with a subset analysis on arthritis.

Methods: This was an interim analysis of the CA Clinics Observational Study investigating self-reported adverse events (AEs) and changes in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes over time after commencing medicinal cannabis. Patients were prescribed medicinal cannabis by a medical practitioner, containing various ratios of Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and/or cannabidiol (CBD).

Distinguishing Progression from Pseudoprogression in Glioblastoma Using F-Fluciclovine PET.

Accurate differentiation between tumor progression (TP) and pseudoprogression remains a critical unmet need in neurooncology. F-fluciclovine is a widely available synthetic amino acid PET radiotracer. In this study, we aimed to assess the value of F-fluciclovine PET for differentiating pseudoprogression from TP in a prospective cohort of patients with suspected radiographic recurrence of glioblastoma.

Positive emotions and their upregulation increase willingness to consume healthy foods.

While highly relevant for everyday life, it is unclear whether experiencing incidental positive or negative emotional states, and active emotion regulation, influence the weighting of perceived taste and health in food choices. In Experiment 1, we examined two emotion regulation strategies, reappraisal and distraction, used to decrease negative emotions. Participants were cued to experience or decrease their emotional response for either neutral or negative incidental emotion-inducing images.

Medicinal cannabis for patients with chronic non-cancer pain: analysis of safety and concomitant medications.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the incidence of adverse events (AEs) reported by patients when initiating medicinal cannabis treatment for chronic pain, and the association of cannabis constituents, dose and concomitant medicines with AE incidence.

Methods: Patient demographics, cannabis products and AE data were collected as part of the Cannabis Access Clinics Observational Study, and concomitant medicines were obtained from patient health summaries provided by referring doctors. F-FDG PET/CT for the Evaluation of Therapy Response in Hormone Receptor-Positive Bone-Dominant Metastatic Breast Cancer.
