The present work describes the extraction of a polyprenylated benzophenone-rich extract from Brazilian red propolis (ERPB), the development and validation of an RP-HPLC-UV method to characterize it, and its evaluation against breast cancer cell lines MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231, as well as the normal counterpart MCF-10 A. A mixture of gutifferone E and xanthochymol (1+2), and isolated oblongifolin B (3) were used as chemical standards for ERPB and were also evaluated. The concentrations of 1+2 and 3 corresponded to 16.

Objective: To investigate latent tuberculosis infection in patients with Crohn's disease. Retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study of quantitative analysis.
We outline a robust, simple, and cost-effective method to simultaneously visualize all mouse lower hindlimb skeletal muscles. We describe procedures for orientating the whole lower hindlimb in gum tragacanth prior to freezing, simplifying the proceeding experimental steps, and enhancing the clarity and comprehensiveness of characterizations. We then detail steps for quantifying muscle fiber size and fiber type characteristics in a single cryosection using immunofluorescence and histochemistry.

Materials And Methods: A systematic search for published observational studies within six electronic databases and grey literature was conducted, PROSPERO database number CRD42020160062. Results from studies reporting clinical periodontal parameters: probing pocket depth, bleeding on probing, clinical attachment level, plaque index, and gingival index, in HIV- and non-HIV-infected individuals were reviewed.
The expansion of technology motivates the increase of global demands for critical minerals. In this context, the exploration of secondary sources of these components is expanding. End-of-life batteries can be seen as potential sources of lithium, cobalt, nickel and manganese for electric vehicles or diverse applications in electronic equipments.

Species of the Corynebacterium diphtheriae complex are potentially toxigenic and, therefore, must be considered given the possible consequences, such as the circulation of clones and transmission of antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes. Recently, Corynebacterium rouxii was characterized and included among the valid species of the complex.

Methods: This is a post-hoc, exploratory analysis from a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial performed in two centers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Hospitalized patients with COVID-19 were randomly assigned to receive either vitamin D (n = 97) or placebo (n = 97).

However, there are no studies that investigate the effects of HIIT on contractility and intracellular Ca handling. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of HIIT on cardiomyocyte contractile function and intracellular Ca handling in rats in which obesity was induced by a saturated high-fat diet (HFD).

This characteristic is due to its ability to produce a wide variety of staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) and exotoxins, which in turn can cause staphylococcal food poisoning (SFP), clinical syndromes such as skin infections, inflammation, pneumonia, and sepsis, in addition to being associated with the development of inflammation in the mammary glands of dairy cattle, which results in chronic mastitis and cell necrosis. SEs are small globular proteins that combine superantigenic and emetic activities; they are resistant to heat, low temperatures, and proteolytic enzymes and are tolerant to a wide pH range.

Manganese (Mn) is an essential metal needed as a cofactor for many enzymes to maintain proper biological functions. Excessive exposure to Mn in high doses can result in a condition known as manganism, which results in disorders of the neurological, cardiac, and pulmonary systems.

Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease that damages and destroys the periodontal tissues supporting the tooth. Periodontal therapies aim to regenerate the lost tissues, yet current treatments lack the integration of multiple structural/biochemical instructive cues to induce a coordinated regeneration, which leads to limited clinical outcomes.

Herbivore rabies, predominantly affecting cattle, horses, and goats in Brazil, remains a concern, results in substantial losses in the livestock industry, and poses risks to public health. Rabies virus transmission, primarily through hematophagous bats in Latin America, underscores the need for effective strategies, and vaccination plays a crucial role in controlling herbivorous rabies, with systematic vaccination beingly the primary method.

Cases of diphtheria, even in immunized individuals, are still reported in several parts of the world, including in Brazil. New outbreaks occur in Europe and other continents. In this context, studies on Corynebacterium diphtheriae infections are highly relevant, both for a better understanding of the pathogenesis of the disease and for controlling the circulation of clones and antimicrobial resistance genes.
