The male imago of Americabaetis titthion is described for the first time. It can be distinguished from other male imagos of the genus by the following combination of characteristics: turbinate portion of the eyes with upper surface ellipsoidal and separated by approximately the width of a lateral ocellus; costal area of fore wings tinged with reddish-brown; presence of pairs of soft, setose protuberances on the meso- and metasternum; subgenital plate slightly concave; forceps with segment I/II slightly tapering medioapically. Supplementary descriptions for the nymph and female imago are provided, as well as the first description of the eggs of a species of the genus.

During an ongoing project aiming to understand the dynamics of Ephemeroptera biodiversity in the Doce River Basin after the disaster, an unusual large number of Apobaetis Day, 1955 were analyzed. The occurrence of Apobaetis is quite relevant, since the combination of factors such as its small body size and its habitat preferences makes their collection difficult and its presence often neglected. For the first time in science, adults of Apobaetis irai De Lima, Massariol, Cruz & Hamada, 2022 and Apobaetis fiuzai Salles & Lugo-Ortiz, 2002 are described and diagnosed.

Physicochemical properties of polymers strongly depend on the arrangement and distribution of attached monomers. Templated polymerization using porous crystalline materials appears as a promising route to gain control on the process. The impact of solvents on the efficiency of cationic dye adsorption from a solution onto protonated Faujasite-type zeolite (FAU-Y) was investigated in the prospect of supporting potential applications in wastewater treatment or in the preparation of building blocks for optical devices. The adsorption isotherms were experimentally determined for methylene blue (MB) and auramine O (AO) from single-component solutions in water and in ethanol. The limiting dye uptake (saturation capacity) was evaluated for each adsorption system, and it decreased in the order of MB-water > AO-water > AO-ethanol > MB-ethanol.

The order Plecoptera constitutes a relatively small group of aquatic insects, encompassing 17 extant families and comprising over 4400 valid species. In Brazil, the number of valid extant species is 207, located in two families: Perlidae (149) and Gripopterygidae (58). Although food is produced in aquaponics systems worldwide, no information is available on the occurrence of insect pests and natural enemies in aquaponic lettuce, Lactuca sativa L. In this study, a survey was carried out in an aquaponic system combining lettuce with lambari, Astyanax altiparanae (Garutti & Briski), aiming to determine the insect pests and natural enemies associated with this system. Cinnamic acid (CA) was successfully incorporated into Zn-Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) through coprecipitation. The CA moiety was stabilized in the interlayer space through not only electrostatic interaction but also intermolecular π-π interaction. It was noteworthy that the CA arrangement was fairly independent of the charge density of LDH, showing the important role of the layer-CA and CA-CA interactions in molecular stabilization.

In 2017 we published a review on blood lead levels (BLL) in children from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) for data available up to 14th of March 2014 and recommended the identification and control of "lead hot spots". Adsorption isotherms of pure vapors and vapor mixtures of water, methanol, and cyclohexane were studied using a synthesized 13X zeolite (FAU topology), by means of a DVS gravimetric vapor analyzer. These results were validated by GCMC calculations. The surface chemistry of the adsorbent was characterized by the thermodesorption of ammonia, and its textural properties were studied using nitrogen physisorption.

In Brazil, about 900 species of Trichoptera have been recorded, with some species in all Brazilian states. Nevertheless, the collection effort is unequal, with several under-sampled regions. Despite being located entirely within the Atlantic Forest ecoregion, a hotspot of biodiversity, Esprito Santo State has a low known caddisfly richness when compared to nearby areas in the same ecoregion, especially for the infraorder Brevitentoria.

It is the first work focused on the geographical distribution of the order in this region. Chemical elements, such as toxic metals, have previously demonstrated their ability to alter gene expression in humans and other species. In this study, microarray analysis was used to compare the gene expression profiles of different occupational exposure populations: a) informal workers who perform soldering of jewelry inside their houses (n = 22) in São Paulo (SP) State; and b) formal workers from a steel company (n = 10) in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) state, Brazil. Luminescent thermometry allows the remote detection of the temperature and holds great potential in future technological applications in which conventional systems could not operate. Complementary approaches to measuring the temperature aiming to enhance the thermal sensitivity would however represent a decisive step forward. For the first time, we demonstrate the proof-of-concept that luminescence thermometry could be associated with a complementary temperature readout related to a different property.
