In the current study, we examined how student characteristics and cognitive skills, differing levels of text complexity (cohesion, decoding, vocabulary, and syntax), and reading comprehension question types (literal, inferential, critical analysis, and reading strategy) affected different types of reading outcomes (multiple-choice reading comprehension questions, free recall, and oral reading fluency) in a sample of 181 native English-speaking adolescents (9 to 14.83 years). Results from item response theory one-parameter models and multilevel models suggested that different cognitive skills predicted performance across the three reading outcomes.

A new lysosome-targetable fluorescence sensor, Lyso-HGP, was designed and synthesized based on 4-methyl-2,6-diformylphenol as a fluorophore. Asymmetric reduction of hydroxynaphthoquinones to secondary metabolites, (3 S,4 R)-3,4,8- and (2 S,4 R)-2,4,8-trihydroxy-1-tetralone, a putative biosynthetic diketo intermediate and a probable natural analogue, (3 S,4 R)-7-acetyl-3,4,8-trihydroxy-6-methyl-3,4-dihydronaphthalene-1(2 H)-one, using NADPH-dependent tetrahydroxynaphthalene reductase (THNR) of Magnaporthe grisea is described. Bangladesh has historically been cholera endemic, with seasonal cholera outbreaks occurring each year. In collaboration with the government of Bangladesh, the Infectious Diseases Division, International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) initiated operational research to test strategies to reach the high-risk urban population with an affordable oral cholera vaccine (OCV) "ShancholTM" and examine its effectiveness in reducing diarrhea due to cholera. A solvent responsive dynamic nanoscale metal-organic framework (NMOF) [Zn(1 a)(H O) ] has been devised based on the self-assembly of Zn and asymmetric bola-amphiphilic oligo-(p-phenyleneethynylene) (OPE) dicarboxylate linker 1 a having dodecyl and triethyleneglycolmonomethylether (TEG, polar) side chains. In THF solvent, NMOF showed nanovesicular morphology (NMOF-1) with surface decorated dodecyl chains. In water and methanol, NMOF exhibited inverse-nanovesicle (NMOF-2) and nanoscroll (NMOF-3) morphology, respectively, with surface projected TEG chains.

The facultative air-breathing magur catfish (Clarias magur) regularly encounter various environmental challenges including the exposure to nanomaterials discarded as industrial wastes in water bodies. The present investigation aimed at determining the possible ZnO NP-induced oxidative stress and also the antioxidant strategy of nitric oxide (NO), generated endogenously, in primary hepatocytes of magur catfish. Exposure of primary hepatocytes to different concentrations of ZnO NPs (5 and 10 μg/mL) led to a sharp rise of intracellular concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (HO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) within 6 h, which decreased gradually at later stages.

A series of bent p-terphenyl-containing macrocycles have been synthesized and then regioselectively brominated, arylated, and subsequently subjected to a Scholl-based cyclodehydrogenation reaction. Shortening the alkyloxy bridging unit of these macrocycles increases the bend in the p-terphenyl unit, as well as the strain energy (SE) of the central para-phenylene ring system. Background: The patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), patient-reported experience measure (PREMs) and Effectiveness Programme (PPEP) launched with the aim of supporting all National Health Service Wales (NHS Wales) organisations to collect PROMs and PREMs across a range of conditions. The aim is to collect generic and condition-specific PROMs and PREMs electronically from every secondary care patient in Wales to provide a measure that can be used to determine the clinical and cost-effectiveness of treatments and services.
