MYH9-related disease (MYH9-RD) is characterized by congenital macrothrombocytopenia, progressive kidney failure, and sensorineural hearing loss. We describe a patient with MYH9-RD and a normal platelet count. A 13-year-old boy with a normal platelet count presented with proteinuria and hematuria and underwent a kidney biopsy.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) secondary to severe falciparum malaria possesses a high mortality rate; however, a prognostic marker of renal dysfunction has not yet been identified. Background: IgG4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a fibroinflammatory disease that affects multiple organs, including the pancreas, lacrimal glands, salivary glands, periaortic/retroperitoneum, and kidney. Interstitial nephritis is a typical renal disorder associated with IgG4-RD, but membranous nephropathy is also seen in some cases.

Primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is thought to be caused by circulating factors leading to podocytopathy, whereas segmental sclerotic lesions (FSGS lesions) have several causes. We studied the clinicopathological differences of FSGS-lesions in 258 cases of FSGS in renal allografts, depending on the following accompanying pathophysiology: recurrence of primary FSGS, calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-induced arteriolopathy, antibody-mediated rejection (ABMR), and other conditions. Poststreptococcal acute kidney glomerulonephritis (PSAGN) has been seen in adults in recent years, especially in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the renal prognosis has not always been good. There have been cases of PSAGN in which complete remission was not achieved and hematuria and proteinuria persisted, leading to end-stage renal disease. Previous reports showed that the patients subjected to PSAGN have an underlying defect in regulating the alternative pathway of complement, and they identified that antibodies to the C3 convertase, C3 nephritic factors (C3NeF), are involved.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the impacts of dapagliflozin on 24-hour glucose variability and diabetes-related biochemical variables in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes who had received basal insulin supported oral therapy (BOT).

Research Design And Methods: Changes in mean daily blood glucose level before and after 48-72 hours of add-on or no add-on of dapagliflozin (primary end point) and diabetes-related biochemical variables and major safety variables during the 12 weeks (secondary end point) were evaluated in the multicenter, randomized, two-arm, open-label, parallel-group comparison study.

Results: Among 36 participants, 18 were included in the no add-on group and 18 were included in the dapagliflozin add-on group.

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between acetabular labral length and symptoms in patients with acetabular dysplasia. In a retrospective medical record review, 218 patients with acetabular dysplasia who had undergone rotational acetabular osteotomy were identified. After implementing the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 53 patients were analyzed for preoperative symptoms measured by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire (JHEQ), acetabular bone morphology parameters by anteroposterior pelvic radiographs and labral parameters by radial magnetic resonance imaging.

Introduction: Proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal IgG deposits (PGNMID) occasionally presents refractory nephrotic syndrome resulting in poor renal prognosis, but its etiology is not fully elucidated. Given that glomerular endothelial cell (GEC) stress or damage may lead to podocytopathy and subsequent proteinuria, as in thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA), diabetic kidney disease, and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, we investigated the evidence of glomerular endothelial injury by evaluating the expression of plasmalemmal vesicle-associated protein-1 (PV-1), a component of caveolae in the cases of PGNMID.

During winter, subalpine conifers experience frequent freeze-thaw cycles in stem xylem that may cause embolism and pit aspiration due to increased water volume during the sap to ice transition. This study examined the occurrence and ecological impacts of a combination of freeze-thaw-induced pit aspiration and embolism triggered by natural and artificial stem freezing. In subalpine Veitch's fir (Abies veitchii) trees, the fraction of closed pits and embolized tracheids as well as conductivity losses were measured to examine pit aspiration and its effects.

Premise: The hydraulic architecture in the leaves, stems and roots of plants constrains water transport and carbon gain through stomatal limitation to CO absorption. Because roots are the main bottleneck in water transport for a range of plant species, we assessed the ecophysiological mechanism and importance of a high fraction of root hydraulic resistance in woody and herbaceous species.
