Background: Age-appropriate speech development is a primary aim of the rehabilitation of children treated with cochlear implants (CI). Various assessment tools are available, including the speech development test for 2‑year-olds (SETK-2). All tests are normalized to normal-hearing children; additionally, results are evaluated according to age and the duration of CI (hearing age).

Background: For various reasons, the initial medical (dental) consultation with patients suffering from chronic pain often does not meet the needs of a "medical dialogue." The aim of this study was to determine whether additional, diagnostically relevant information could be gained from a nonmedical interview.

Methods: The initial dental consultation and an additional conversation with a linguist were taped, transcribed, and compared regarding information obtained.

Chloroplasts were isolated from ruptured guard-cell protoplasts of the Argenteum mutant of Pisum sativum L. and purified by centrifugation through a Percoll layer. The combined volume of the intact plastids and the uptake of phosphate were determined by silicone oil-filtering centrifugation, using tritiated water and [14C]sorbitol as membrane-permeating and nonpermeating markers and [32P]phosphate as tracer for phosphate.
