Introduction: Accurate early diagnosis of a gastrointestinal anastomotic leak remains a challenge. When an anastomotic leak develops, the electrical properties of the tissue undergoing inflammatory processes change, resulting from the extravasation of inflammatory fluid and cellular infiltration. The method described here intends to provide a novel early anastomotic leak warning system based upon measurable changes in tissue impedance nearby an acute inflammatory process.

Repair of injured lungs represents a longstanding therapeutic challenge. We recently demonstrated that human and mouse embryonic lung tissue from the canalicular stage of development are enriched with lung progenitors, and that a single cell suspension of canalicular lungs can be used for transplantation, provided that lung progenitor niches in the recipient mice are vacated by strategies similar to those used in bone marrow transplantation. Considering the ethical limitations associated with the use of fetal cells, we investigated here whether adult lungs could offer an alternative source of lung progenitors for transplantation.

Background: In a cohort of congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries (cc-TGA) and transposition of the great arteries after atrial switch procedure (d-TGA) the study objectives were: 1) to assess the change of quantitative systemic right ventricle (sRV) parameters over time and; 2) to examine the relationship of quantitative sRV parameters with adverse clinical outcomes.

Methods And Results: Single-center cohort study that included 49 (39%) cc-TGA and 76 (61%) d-TGA patients >18years who had at least one MUGA sRV assessment, 18/39 had more than one respectively. The primary clinical endpoint was all-cause mortality, heart transplantation and/or heart failure hospitalization.

Objectives: To describe the epidemiologic, microbiologic, clinical and therapeutic aspects of acute mastoiditis (AM) in children <15 years of age during the 4-year period (2009-2012) following the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines in Israel.

Leaning on Bion's concept of -K, the constitution of secrecy is interpreted in terms of family dynamics that actively prevent knowledge formation and mental growth. Family secrets are interpreted as a destructive process that attacks the family's truth-generating-space - the shared semiotic space within which meanings are constituted through family relationships.

We consider a class of interaction terms that describes correlated tunneling of composite fermions between effective Landau levels. Despite being generic and of similar strength to that of the usual density-density couplings, these terms are not included in the accepted theory of the edges of fractional quantum Hall systems. Here we show that they may lead to an instability of the edge towards a new reconstructed state with additional channels, and thereby demonstrate the incompleteness of the traditional edge theory.

A 14-week-old kitten from a private cattery was examined because of an acute onset of recumbency and epistaxis 10 days after receiving a high-titer modified-live virus vaccine containing panleukopenia virus, calicivirus, and herpesvirus components. The kitten died the following day, and intestinal crypt necrosis; hepatic, splenic, and lymph node inflammation and necrosis; and pneumonia were seen at necropsy. We describe six recessive autosomal male sterile mutations in Drosophila, generated by mobilization of single P-elements, exhibiting abnormal male courtship behavior. Detailed analysis of courtship behavior elicited by virgin wild type females indicated that five of the six mutants are affected in the early steps of courtship. The sixth mutant is blocked at the step of attempted copulation which occurs later in the courtship sequence.

LIM domains function as bridging modules between different members of multiprotein complexes. We report the cloning of a LIM-containing gene from Drosophila, termed Dlmo, which is highly homologous to the vertebrate LIM-only (LMO) genes. The clinical, morphologic, histochemical, and biochemical features of GM1-gangliosidosis in two canine models, English Springer Spaniel (ESS) and Portuguese Water Dog (PWD), have been compared. The disease onset, its clinical course, and survival period of the affected dogs were similar in both models. Habitual abortion is a difficult clinical problem, as no cause can be found for abortion in over 50% of patients. At the habitual abortion clinic of the Sheba Medical Center, immunological activity is tested and patients who are considered suitable are offered immunopotentiation with paternal leukocytes. Patients are only treated if they have no other cause for habitual abortion, no lupus anticoagulant and no antipaternal complement-dependent antibodies (APCA).
