The precise cognitive mechanisms underlying spatial neglect are not fully understood. Recent studies have provided the first evidence for aberrant behavioral and electrophysiological prediction and prediction error responses in patients with neglect, but also in right-hemispheric (RH) stroke patients without neglect. For prediction-dependent attention, as assessed with Posner-type cueing paradigms with volatile cue-target contingencies, studies in healthy volunteers point to a crucial role of the right temporo-parietal junction (rTPJ) - as part of a network commonly disrupted in neglect.

We sought to evaluate the usability and psychometric properties of five tools that assess general intelligence, executive functioning, and sustained attention among Tanzanian children.
Methods: We adapted five age-appropriate neurocognitive assessment batteries from previously published assessment materials to the Tanzanian context.
Background: In the United States (U.S.), the prevalence of anxiety and depression is increasing, yet significant barriers to mental health treatment remain.

Live music concerts provide an excellent option to investigate real-world music experiences, and at the same time, use neurophysiological synchrony to assess dynamic engagement. In the current study, we assessed engagement in a live concert setting using synchrony of cardiorespiratory measures, comparing inter-subject, stimulus-response, correlation, and phase coherence.

Here we reviewed and synthesized the global scale and impact of pandemic-related delays and disruptions on cancer services, including diagnosis, diagnostic procedures, screening, treatment and supportive and palliative care. Based on data from 245 articles in 46 countries, we observed declines in the number of cancer screening participation (39.

State-of-the-art algorithms in medical imaging are predominantly diverging from computer vision, where voxel grids, meshes, point clouds, and implicit surface models are used. This is seen from the growing popularity of ShapeNet (51,300 models) and Princeton ModelNet (127,915 models).

Methods: In this phase 3 study (NCT04707391), healthy participants aged 15-25 years, who had received MenACWY vaccination ≥4 years previously, were randomized (1:1) to receive two MenABCWY doses six months apart or one MenACWY-CRM dose. Primary objectives were to demonstrate the non-inferiority of MenABCWY 1 month post-vaccination versus MenACWY-CRM, with a lower limit of 2-sided 95% confidence interval above -10% for group differences in 4-fold rise in human serum bactericidal antibody (hSBA) titers against serogroups ACWY, and to evaluate reactogenicity and safety.
Cancers utilize a simple glycan, Sialic Acid, to engage in metastatic processes via the Sialic acid (Sia) -Selectin pathway. Selectins recognize and bind to sialylated substrates, resulting in adhesion, migration, and extravasation, however, how deviations from the canonical form of Sia regulate binding to Selectin receptors (E, L, and P) on hemopoietic cells resulting in these metastatic processes, remained a gap in knowledge. De-O-acetylated Sias has been recently shown to be an integral substrate to the binding of sialic acid binding proteins.

However, in view of the future challenges at the GP level of care, there is a shortage of young doctors. It would thus be desirable if postgraduate training could be completed quickly, particularly in this area.

The logistics underlying myofilament assembly and disassembly have started to emerge with the possibility to follow labeled sarcomere components. Here, we generated the mCherry knock-in at titin's Z-disk to study skeletal muscle development and remodeling.

While brain stimulation techniques show promise in reducing tic severity, optimal target networks are not well-defined. Here, we leverage datasets from two independent deep brain stimulation (DBS) cohorts and a cohort of tic-inducing lesions to infer critical networks for treatment and occurrence of tics by mapping stimulation sites and lesions to a functional connectome derived from 1,000 healthy participants.

The adoption of comprehensive genomic profiling in oncology has rapidly increased the demand for standardized tumor sample processing in diagnostic laboratories. Automation of DNA and RNA library preparation workflows offers the possibility to scale-up and standardize sample processing. We report on the clinical implementation of the automated TruSight Oncology 500 High-Throughput library preparation workflow from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor samples using the Biomek i7 hybrid Workstation.

Background: Extreme temperatures are associated with negative health outcomes, in particular for older adults with pre-existing conditions. While climate change is expected to increase exposure to temperature levels that are detrimental for health, little is known about how dementia shapes vulnerability to extreme temperatures.
Methods: We leveraged repeated quarterly individual-level health claims from 2004 to 2019 on 250,000 individuals in Germany aged 50 years and above with information on key neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears have become an increasingly prevalent problem in pediatric patients due to increased youth sports participation and early sports specialization. A high index of suspicion should be utilized for any young patient with an acute knee injury and an associated effusion or difficulty bearing weight. A thorough work-up should be performed that includes a careful assessment of growth remaining and concomitant injuries.

Aerosol delivery may be enhanced by utilizing an inspiration-synchronized nebulization mode, where nebulization occurs only during inspiration. This study aimed to compare aerosol delivery of albuterol via a prototype of an inspiration-synchronized vibrating mesh nebulizer (VMN) versus continuous VMN during invasive mechanical ventilation. A critical care ventilator equipped with a heated-wire circuit to deliver adult parameters was attached to an endotracheal tube (ETT), a collection filter, and a test lung.

Working alongside the health sector, multisectoral actions including social protection and education are necessary to achieve child health and development outcomes. Innovations are needed to expand access to high-quality early childhood care and education (ECCE) for young children and opportunities for youth development.

However, it remains controversial whether central slowing is primarily linked to brain processes as atrophy, or is also associated with the slowing of temporal neural processing from the periphery. Here we analyzed electroencephalogram (EEG) responses that most likely reflect medial geniculate body (MGB) responses to passive listening of phonemes in 80 subjects ranging in age from 18 to 76 years, in whom the peripheral auditory responses had been analyzed in detail (Schirmer et al.
