Amino acid formula (AAF) is increasingly consumed in infants with cow's milk protein allergy; however, the long-term influences on health are less described. In this study, we established a mouse model by subjecting neonatal mice to an amino acid diet (AAD) to mimic the feeding regimen of infants on AAF. Surprisingly, AAD-fed mice exhibited dysbiotic microbiota and increased neuronal activity in both the intestine and brain, as well as gastrointestinal peristalsis disorders and depressive-like behavior.

Background: Despite polysomnography (PSG) being acknowledged being considered the gold standard for diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), researchers have been seeking a biomarker that is less invasive, more practical in detection, and cost-effective for diagnosing and assessing the severity of the disease. To address this concern, the values of mean platelet volume (MPV) between patients with OSAHS and healthy controls were compared, and the relationship between MPV and multiple sleep monitoring parameters was analyzed in this study.

Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted across medical databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CNKI, and Wanfang, up until August 2, 2023, to identify published articles related to OSAHS.

Article Synopsis
  • T cells play a critical role in hypertension, with high levels of legumain (LGMN) found in these cells; however, its specific contribution to high blood pressure is not fully understood.
  • Peripheral blood samples from hypertensive patients were analyzed, and various mouse models were used to investigate the effects of knocking out or inhibiting LGMN in T cells, revealing its importance in hypertension development.
  • Results showed that increased LGMN expression in CD4+ T cells correlates with higher blood pressure and reduced regulatory T cell function, indicating that LGMN contributes to hypertension by impairing Treg differentiation and functioning, which promotes inflammation.

The intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) constitute the primary barrier between host cells and numerous foreign antigens; it is unclear how IECs induce the protective immunity against pathogens while maintaining the immune tolerance to food. Here, we found IECs accumulate a less recognized 13-kD N-terminal fragment of GSDMD that is cleaved by caspase-3/7 in response to dietary antigens. Unlike the 30-kD GSDMD cleavage fragment that executes pyroptosis, the IEC-accumulated GSDMD cleavage fragment translocates to the nucleus and induces the transcription of CIITA and MHCII molecules, which in turn induces the Tr1 cells in upper small intestine.

Background: Vascular growth followed by vessel specification is crucial for the establishment of a hierarchical blood vascular network. We have shown that TIE2 is required for vein development while little is known about its homologue TIE1 (tyrosine kinase with immunoglobulin-like and EGF [epithelial growth factor]-like domains 1) in this process.

Methods: We analyzed functions of TIE1 as well as its synergy with TIE2 in the regulation of vein formation by employing genetic mouse models targeting , , and , together with in vitro cultured endothelial cells to decipher the underlying mechanism.
