Rationale And Objectives: To develop an intelligent diagnostic model for osteoporosis screening based on low-dose chest computed tomography (LDCT). The model incorporates automatic deep-learning thoracic vertebrae of cancellous bone (TVCB) segmentation model and radiomics analysis.

Materials And Methods: A total of 442 participants who underwent both LDCT and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) examinations were enrolled and were randomly allocated to the training, internal testing, and external testing cohorts.

Comparison of an improved Penman-Monteith model and SWH model for estimating evapotranspiration in a meadow wetland in a semiarid region.

Accurately estimating evapotranspiration (ET) for meadow wetland ecosystems is of great significance for water management in semiarid regions. Taking a meadow wetland ecosystem in the Horqin Sandy Land as an example, this study coupled the Ball-Berry canopy stomatal conductance model to Penman-Monteith (P-M) model and Shuttleworth-Wallace (S-W) model, and the improved P-M model and SWH model were calibrated and validated by long-term (2013-2018 growing seasons) eddy covariance (EC) measurements. The results indicated that the improved P-M model and SWH model performed well either at half-hourly or daily timescales, with high coefficient of determination (R) and index of agreement (IA) and low root mean square error (RMSE).

First Case of 2019 Novel Coronavirus in the United States.

An outbreak of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) that began in Wuhan, China, has spread rapidly, with cases now confirmed in multiple countries. We report the first case of 2019-nCoV infection confirmed in the United States and describe the identification, diagnosis, clinical course, and management of the case, including the patient's initial mild symptoms at presentation with progression to pneumonia on day 9 of illness. This case highlights the importance of close coordination between clinicians and public health authorities at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as the need for rapid dissemination of clinical information related to the care of patients with this emerging infection.

Terrestrial evapotranspiration (ET) plays a crucial role in climate regulation and the maintenance of regional water balance. Quantitative estimation of ET and its partitioning are important for revealing the eco-hydrological processes in arid and semi-arid areas. Using the in situ data sampled by the meteorological monitoring system, the Shuttleworth-Wallace (S-W) model was applied to simulate and partition ET in the mobile and semi-mobile dunes of the Horqin sandy land during the growing season in 2017.

p53 Represses the Mevalonate Pathway to Mediate Tumor Suppression.

There are still gaps in our understanding of the complex processes by which p53 suppresses tumorigenesis. Here we describe a novel role for p53 in suppressing the mevalonate pathway, which is responsible for biosynthesis of cholesterol and nonsterol isoprenoids. p53 blocks activation of SREBP-2, the master transcriptional regulator of this pathway, by transcriptionally inducing the ABCA1 cholesterol transporter gene.

An inflammatory-CCRK circuitry drives mTORC1-dependent metabolic and immunosuppressive reprogramming in obesity-associated hepatocellular carcinoma.

Obesity increases the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) especially in men, but the molecular mechanism remains obscure. Here, we show that an androgen receptor (AR)-driven oncogene, cell cycle-related kinase (CCRK), collaborates with obesity-induced pro-inflammatory signaling to promote non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)-related hepatocarcinogenesis. Lentivirus-mediated Ccrk ablation in liver of male mice fed with high-fat high-carbohydrate diet abrogates not only obesity-associated lipid accumulation, glucose intolerance and insulin resistance, but also HCC development.

TFOS DEWS II Diagnostic Methodology report.

The role of the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) Dry Eye Workshop (DEWS) II Diagnostic Methodology Subcommittee was 1) to identify tests used to diagnose and monitor dry eye disease (DED), 2) to identify those most appropriate to fulfil the definition of DED and its sub-classifications, 3) to propose the most appropriate order and technique to conduct these tests in a clinical setting, and 4) to provide a differential diagnosis for DED and distinguish conditions where DED is a comorbidity. Prior to diagnosis, it is important to exclude conditions that can mimic DED with the aid of triaging questions. Symptom screening with the DEQ-5 or OSDI confirms that a patient might have DED and triggers the conduct of diagnostic tests of (ideally non-invasive) breakup time, osmolarity and ocular surface staining with fluorescein and lissamine green (observing the cornea, conjunctiva and eyelid margin).

Objectives: We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of sonographically guided high-intensity focused ultrasound for treating patients with symptomatic uterine fibroids using a modified protocol.

Methods: This work was part of an ongoing prospective phase 1 study. Twenty patients with 22 symptomatic fibroids were treated with sonographically guided high-intensity focused ultrasound under no anesthesia.

Context: Living in a prediabetes state significantly increases a patient's risk for both diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Tianqi capsule, containing 10 Chinese herbal medicines, is used in China for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess whether Tianqi prevented T2DM in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) over the course of a 12-month treatment.
