High-performance green functional materials have garnered significant interest for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding applications, but creating customized, low-density, high-strength and high-efficiency biomass-based shielding materials remains challenging. In this study, lightweight Ca doped sodium alginate (SA) porous scaffolds with a carbon nanotube (CNT)/graphene (Gr) hybrid conductive network were fabricated via direct ink writing (DIW) 3D printing. The SA/CNT/Gr inks with unique rheological properties were formulated and architectures with arbitrarily customized structures could be freely constructed based on the printable inks.

The treatment and monitoring of infected skin wounds present significant clinical challenges. Herein, a multifunctional poly(deep eutectic solvent) (PDES) electroactive hydrogel is developed by optimizing the components and the ratio of hydrogen donors and acceptors, achieving well wound hemostasis, wound healing, and monitoring administration performace. The PDES hydrogel dressing exhibits mechanical properties, including high toughness, fatigue resistance (over 9000 compression cycles), and superior skin adhesion (over 70 kPa).

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) detection can predict clinical risk in early-stage tumors. However, clinical applications are constrained by the sensitivity of clinically validated ctDNA detection approaches. NeXT Personal is a whole-genome-based, tumor-informed platform that has been analytically validated for ultrasensitive ctDNA detection at 1-3 ppm of ctDNA with 99.

The vasodilator hydralazine (HYZ) has been used clinically for ~ 70 years and remains on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines as a therapy for preeclampsia. Despite its longstanding use and the concomitant progress toward a general understanding of vasodilation, the target and mechanism of HYZ have remained unknown. We show that HYZ selectively targets 2-aminoethanethiol dioxygenase (ADO) by chelating its metal cofactor and alkylating one of its ligands.

Large language models (LLMs) have shown promise in medical question answering, with Med-PaLM being the first to exceed a 'passing' score in United States Medical Licensing Examination style questions. However, challenges remain in long-form medical question answering and handling real-world workflows. Here, we present Med-PaLM 2, which bridges these gaps with a combination of base LLM improvements, medical domain fine-tuning and new strategies for improving reasoning and grounding through ensemble refinement and chain of retrieval.

Local anesthetics are commonly used in various clinical settings for both prevention and symptom relief. Numerous clinical studies have demonstrated that intra-articular injections of local anesthetics achieve high success rates in orthopedic practices. However, several widely used local anesthetics, including bupivacaine, lidocaine, and ropivacaine, have been shown to exhibit toxicity to chondrocytes, with the underlying mechanisms of chondrotoxicity remaining poorly understood.

With the rapid development of wearable electronic devices, flexible supercapacitors have gained strong interest. However, traditional sandwich supercapacitors have weak interfacial binding, resulting in high interface resistance and poor deformability. Herein, a self-healing integrated supercapacitor based on a polyacrylic acid-polyisodecyl methacrylate-CoSO gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) was developed.

Article Synopsis
  • Integrated stretchable devices face issues with electrical performance due to debonding at connections between soft and rigid modules under stress.
  • A new conductive and adhesive bilayer interface connects these modules effectively, using a combination of a SEBS elastomer layer and a SEBS-liquid metal composite layer.
  • This innovative interface allows for impressive strain capabilities and maintains high electrical conductivity (3.7 × 10 S m) even when stretched, paving the way for practical applications in wearable and implantable bioelectronics.

Successful immunotherapy relies on both intratumoral and systemic immunity, which is yet to be achieved for most patients with cancer. Here, we identify P4HA1, encoding prolyl 4-hydroxylase 1, as a crucial regulator of CD8 T cell differentiation strongly upregulated in tumor-draining lymph nodes (TDLNs) and hypoxic tumor microenvironment. P4HA1 accumulates in mitochondria, disrupting the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle through aberrant α-ketoglutarate and succinate metabolism, promoting mitochondria unfitness and exhaustion while suppressing progenitor expansion.

Clinical trials of treatments for stroke have generally utilized 2-arm, randomized designs to evaluate a single intervention against a control. Running separate clinical trials, with each addressing a single therapeutic question, is resource intensive and slows evidence generation, especially in a field with rapidly expanding treatment options and evolving practices. Platform trials-randomized clinical trials designed to evaluate multiple interventions that may enter and exit the ongoing platform based on a master protocol-accelerate the investigation of multiple therapeutic options within a single infrastructure.

Stretchable conductive hydrogels have attracted great attention in flexible electronics. Nevertheless, conductive hydrogels would suffer from an inevitable damage during use, significantly reducing the reliability and limiting the practicability. Herein, stretchable and self-healing conductive hydrogels are designed form carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polyacrylic acid (PAA), and Fe, which are applied for monitoring human motions and electrophysiological signals.

Focal gene amplifications are among the most common cancer-associated mutations but have proven challenging to engineer in primary cells and model organisms. Here we describe a general strategy to engineer large (more than 1 Mbp) focal amplifications mediated by extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) in a spatiotemporally controlled manner in cells and in mice. By coupling ecDNA formation with expression of selectable markers, we track the dynamics of ecDNA-containing cells under physiological conditions and in the presence of specific selective pressures.

Stretchable fibers with high conductivity are vital components for smart textiles and wearable electronics. However, embedding solid conductive materials in polymers significantly reduces conductive pathways when stretched, causing a sharp drop in conductivity. Here, a stretchable metastructured fiber with dynamic liquid metal-microfiber interlocking interface is reported to realize highly conductive yet ultrastable conductance.

The nuclear-cytoplasmic trafficking of matrix proteins (M) is essential for henipavirus budding, with M protein ubiquitination playing a pivotal role in this dynamic process. Despite its importance, the intricacies of the M ubiquitination cascade have remained elusive. In this study, we elucidate a novel mechanism by which Nipah virus (NiV), a highly pathogenic henipavirus, utilizes a ubiquitination complex involving the E2 ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme RAD6A and the E3 ubiquitin ligase RAD18 to ubiquitinate the virus's M protein, thereby facilitating its nuclear-cytoplasmic trafficking.

Supramolecular flexible electronic devices are one of the research hotspots due to their application in the fields of chemistry, biology, and materials. Herein, we reported a slide-ring supramolecular flexible electronic device, which is constructed by acrylamide (AAm), acrylic acid (AA), carboxymethyl-α-cyclodextrin (CM-α-CD), PEG diacrylate (PEGDA), and calcium chloride via the photoinitiated polymerization, displaying not only the mechanical force-responded self-generation but also the human-computer information transfer. As compared with the polymer hydrogel, the addition of α-CD polypseudorotaxane to the hydrogel has notably enhanced both the tensile length and the tensile toughness, making it more suitable for flexible electronic device applications.
