Background: Pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy is a potential nonoperative treatment for Achilles tendinopathy, but the current published literature on its effects is sparse.

Purpose: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of PEMF therapy and eccentric exercise for Achilles tendinopathy.

Study Design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 1.

Article Synopsis
  • The text details a new endoscopic treatment for Achilles tendinopathy using a bioinductive collagen scaffold, particularly for cases that haven't improved with non-surgical options.
  • The procedure involves inserting a 4-mm arthroscope through two small portals to perform standard tendon cleaning before placing the collagen scaffold at the injury site.
  • This method is significant as it eliminates the need for open surgery, allowing for a less invasive approach that can be used either on its own or alongside other minimally invasive treatments.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to unify two tools used to assess clinical high risk for psychosis: the SIPS and CAARMS.
  • Experts conducted workshops and videoconferences to achieve harmonization of symptom ratings and criteria for psychosis.
  • The outcome is a new semi-structured interview (PSYCHS) that allows for consistent evaluation and comparison of findings in research studies related to at-risk mental states.

Aim: To harmonize two ascertainment and severity rating instruments commonly used for the clinical high risk syndrome for psychosis (CHR-P): the Structured Interview for Psychosis-risk Syndromes (SIPS) and the Comprehensive Assessment of At-Risk Mental States (CAARMS).

Methods: The initial workshop is described in the companion report from Addington et al. After the workshop, lead experts for each instrument continued harmonizing attenuated positive symptoms and criteria for psychosis and CHR-P through an intensive series of joint videoconferences.

Background: Atrial fibrillation is a chronic, progressive disorder, and persistent forms of atrial fibrillation are associated with increased risks of thromboembolism and heart failure. Catheter ablation as initial therapy may modify the pathogenic mechanism of atrial fibrillation and alter progression to persistent atrial fibrillation.

Methods: We report the 3-year follow-up of patients with paroxysmal, untreated atrial fibrillation who were enrolled in a trial in which they had been randomly assigned to undergo initial rhythm-control therapy with cryoballoon ablation or to receive antiarrhythmic drug therapy.

Malignant gliomas are a group of intracranial cancers associated with disproportionately high mortality and morbidity. Here, we report ultradeep targeted sequencing of a prospective cohort of 237 tumors from 234 patients consisting of both glioblastoma (GBM) and lower-grade glioma (LGG) using our customized gene panels. We identified 2,485 somatic mutations, including single-nucleotide substitutions and small indels, using a validated in-house protocol.
