Background: Real-world data on clinical characteristics and outcomes related to the use of different direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) is lacking.
Methods: The COMMAND VTE Registry-2 is a multicenter registry enrolling 5,197 consecutive patients with acute symptomatic VTE from 31 centers in Japan from January 2015 to August 2020. Our study population comprised 1,197 patients with active cancer who were divided into the edoxaban ( = 643, 54%), rivaroxaban ( = 297, 25%), and apixaban ( = 257, 22%) groups.
Aims: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) often coexist. Older age is strongly associated with stroke, HF, and mortality. The association between coexistence of HF and a risk of clinical outcomes and the effectiveness of anticoagulation therapy including direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in elderly patients with AF and HF have not been investigated.

The investigation was a prospective, multi-center, observational study conducted among the ICUs of 17 participating hospitals. Patients ≥ 65 years of age who were admitted to the ICU directly from an emergency department visit were assessed to determine their baseline Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS) scores before the illness and were surveyed 6 months after admission.

We established a novel mouse model of diet-induced steatohepatitis-related cardiomyopathy and evaluated the effect of pemafibrate. C57Bl/6 male mice were fed a (1) chow diet (C), (2) high-fat, high-cholesterol, high-sucrose, bile acid diet (NASH diet; N), or (3) N with pemafibrate 0.

We quantitatively examined sequential changes in the morphology and circulation hemodynamics, using a C-scan of optical coherence tomography (OCT) and laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) in a patient with VKH disease accompanied by AION. A 65-year-old female complained of blurred vision in both of her eyes.

Methods: A total of 278 consecutive patients treated with nivolumab for gastric cancer during 2017-2019 were enrolled in this multi-institutional retrospective cohort study. The impact of laboratory findings, immune-related adverse events (irAEs), and clinicopathological factors on long-term survival was evaluated using the Cox proportional hazards model.
A great deal of effort has been being made to improve the accuracy of the prediction of drug-drug interactions (DDIs). In this study, we addressed CYP3A-mediated weak DDIs, in which a relatively high false prediction rate was pointed out. We selected 17 orally administered drugs that have been reported to alter area under the curve (AUC) of midazolam, a typical CYP3A substrate, 0.

We pooled data from the first 12 weeks of six randomized double-blind placebo-controlled studies of pemafibrate in Japan and investigated its efficacy and safety with and without statins, particularly focusing on patients with renal dysfunction. Subjects were 1253 patients (677 in the "with-statin" group and 576 in the "without-statin" group).

Although the majority of cases are acquired, genetic analysis of families with bradyarrhythmia has identified a growing number of causative gene mutations. Because the only ultimate treatment for symptomatic bradyarrhythmia has been invasive surgical implantation of a pacemaker, the discovery of novel therapeutic molecular targets is necessary to improve prognosis and quality of life.

Previous clinical trials of pemafibrate used stringent exclusion criteria related to renal functions. Therefore, we investigated its safety and efficacy in a broader range of patients, including those with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Methods: This phase III, placebo/active drug-controlled, randomized, double-blind, parallel group comparison study enrolled patients with high TG and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. Patients were randomly assigned to receive placebo; pemafibrate 0.
Purpose: Plasma globotriaosylsphingosine (lyso-Gb3) is a promising secondary screening biomarker for Fabry disease. Here, we examined its applicability as a primary screening biomarker for classic and late-onset Fabry disease in males and females.
Methods: Between 1 July 2014 and 31 December 2015, we screened 2,359 patients (1,324 males) referred from 168 Japanese specialty clinics (cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and pediatrics), based on clinical symptoms suggestive of Fabry disease.
The right halves of halichondrins A-C were synthesized by coupling the common C20-C37 building block 9 with the C1-C19 building blocks 10a-c, respectively. Catalytic, asymmetric Ni/Cr-mediated coupling was used for three C-C bond formations. For all cases, the stereochemistry was controlled with the Cr catalyst prepared from the chiral sulfonamide identified via the toolbox approach.

In the case of thiolate ArS containing very bulky acylamino groups forming NH···S hydrogen bonds, the crystal of the intermediate, [ArS-I-I], was obtained under usual conditions, and the structure was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The results show that the intramolecular NH···S hydrogen bonds stabilized the intermediate [ArS-I-I], consistent with theoretical calculations.

In this study, we attempted to determine whether peripheral plasma levels of 18-oxocortisol (18oxoF) and 18-hydroxycortisol could contribute to the clinical differentiation between aldosteronoma and bilateral hyperaldosteronism in 234 patients with primary aldosteronism, including computed tomography (CT)-detectable aldosteronoma (n=113) and bilateral hyperaldosteronism (n=121), all of whom underwent CT and adrenal venous sampling. All aldosteronomas were surgically resected and the accuracy of diagnosis was clinically and histopathologically confirmed.

Objectives: Guided by the concept of "aging in place" and potential policy implications, the study analyzed naturally occurring retirement communities (NORCs; 40% or greater house owners and renters aged 65 years and older) and whether there were spatiotemporal patterns in Ohio between 2000 and 2010.
Method: Data were derived from the 2000 and 2010 census tracts. Geovisualization was used to visually examine the distribution of NORCs in 2000 and 2010.
Objective: In familial lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT) deficiency (FLD), deposition of abnormal lipoproteins in the renal stroma ultimately leads to renal failure. However, fish-eye disease (FED) does not lead to renal damage although the causative mutations for both FLD and FED lie within the same LCAT gene. This study was performed to identify the lipoproteins important for the development of renal failure in genetically diagnosed FLD in comparison with FED, using high-performance liquid chromatography with a gel filtration column.

Methods: Six strabismus patients (6 dominant and 5 non-dominant eyes) with abnormal binocular vision (mean age 22 years), and 11 control subjects (11 dominant and 11 non-dominant eyes) (mean age 21 years) were enrolled. Macular retinal thickness measurements were performed by optical coherence tomography, with total macular retinal (TMR) and ganglion cell complex (GCC) thicknesses measured in 3- and 6-mm regions in each quadrant.
Purpose: To study the three-dimensional movement of internal tumor bed fiducial and breast skin markers, using 320-multislice computed tomography (CT); and to analyze intrafractional errors for breast cancer patients undergoing breast irradiation.
Methods And Materials: This study examined 280 markers on the skin of the breast (200 markers) and on the primary tumor bed (80 markers) of 20 patients treated by external-beam photon radiotherapy. Motion assessment was analyzed in 41 respiratory phases during 20 s of cine CT in the radiotherapy position.
