Background: Intravascular imaging-guided percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been shown to improve clinical outcomes in patients with complex coronary artery lesions compared with angiography-guided PCI. The ultimate limit for laser miniaturization would be achieving lasing action in the lowest-order cavity mode within a device volume of ≤(λ/2n), where λ is the free-space wavelength and n is the refractive index. Here we highlight the equivalence of localized surface plasmons and surface plasmon polaritons within resonant systems, introducing nanolasers that oscillate in the lowest-order localized surface plasmon or, equivalently, half-cycle surface plasmon polariton. These diffraction-limited single-mode emitters, ranging in size from 170 to 280 nm, harness strong coupling between gold and InGaAsP in the near-infrared (λ = 1,000-1,460 nm), away from the surface plasmon frequency.

Laser particles (LPs) emitting narrowband spectra across wide spectral ranges are highly promising for high-multiplex optical barcoding. Here, we present LPs based on indium phosphide (InP) nanodisks, operating in the near-infrared wavelength range of 740-970 nm. Utilizing low-order whispering gallery resonance modes in size-tuned nanodisks, we achieved an ultrawide color palette with 27% bandwidth utilization and nanometer-scale linewidth.

Plasmonic lasers have traditionally been built on flat metal substrates. Here, we introduce substrate-free plasmonic lasers created by coating semiconductor particles with an optically thin layer of noble metal. This architecture supports plasmonic "hinge" modes highly localized along the particle's edges and corners, exhibiting Purcell factors exceeding 100 and Q-factors of 15-20 near the plasmon resonance frequency.

The mammalian reovirus Type 3 Dearing (T3D) is a naturally occurring oncolytic virus. We previously identified a T3D variant isolated from persistently infected cancer cells that has a premature stop codon mutation in the gene, generating a truncated σ1-attachment protein that lacks the globular head. We now report on the molecular characterization of this variant, named RP116, and assess its antitumor potential in human cancer cells and syngeneic mouse models.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have received considerable attention as promising electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), yet their potential is often constrained by the inertness of the basal planes arising from their poor hydrogen adsorption ability. Here, the relationship between the electronic structure of the WS basal plane and HER activity is systemically analyzed to establish a clear insight. The valance state of the sulfur atoms on the basal plane has been tuned to enhance hydrogen adsorption through sequential engineering processes, including direct phase transition and heterostructure that induces work function-difference-induced unidirectional electron transfer.
