Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the prevalence of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) symptoms in individuals infected with Delta and Omicron variants, comparing them to a control group over a 12-month period.
  • Participants completed surveys every three months about their symptoms and severity levels for various PASC-associated symptoms, revealing a higher prevalence initially for Delta cases compared to Omicron.
  • PASC prevalence dropped from 34.3% to 21.7% for Delta and from 18.7% to 16.7% for Omicron over the study period, with no significant difference between the two by the end of the 12 months.

Article Synopsis
  • Serum neurofilament light (sNfL) serves as a biomarker for neuro-axonal damage in multiple sclerosis (MS) but its clinical usage is still limited; this study assessed how its implementation affects clinical decisions at the MS Center Amsterdam.
  • Over the study period (August 2021-December 2022), sNfL was evaluated in various contexts, with a notable change in clinical decisions in 19.3% of cases, especially when assessing new symptoms or when higher sNfL levels were present.
  • The findings suggest that integrating sNfL into clinical practice improved decision-making certainty and potentially adjusted expectations regarding MRI activity, indicating its potential value in patient care while calling for further research

Systemic vasodilating agents like nitroglycerin (NG) or iloprost (Ilo) show beneficial effects on intestinal microcirculation during sepsis, which could be attenuated by activation of the sympathetic nervous system or systemic side effects of vasodilating agents. This exploratory study aimed to investigate the effects of topically administered vasodilators and the parasympathetic drug carbachol on colonic microcirculatory oxygenation (µHbO), blood flow (µFlow) and mitochondrial respiration. A total of 120 male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to twelve groups and underwent either colon ascendens stent peritonitis (CASP) or sham surgery.
