Wavefront sensing: A breakthrough for objective evaluation of dynamic accommodation in accommodative dysfunctions.

The purpose of this study was to use wavefront sensing as an objective method to detect and assess dynamic accommodation in subjects with accommodative dysfunctions and symptoms related to near-vision tasks. Sixty-three subjects were divided into control (N = 18), symptomatic without any accommodative dysfunction (SWD) (N = 18), infacility of accommodation (INFA) (N = 6), excess of accommodation (EA) (N = 9), and insufficiency of accommodation (INSA) (N = 12) groups. Accommodation was stimulated in different cycles of accommodation and disaccommodation while ocular aberrations were measured.

Tangential Versus Segmental Portomesenteric Venous Resection During Pancreatoduodenectomy for Pancreatic Cancer: An International Multicenter Cohort Study on Surgical and Oncological Outcome.

Objective: To investigate whether tangential versus segmental portomesenteric venous resection (PVR) impacts surgical and oncological outcome in patients undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic cancer with portomesenteric vein (PMV) involvement.

Summary Background Data: Current comparative studies on tangential versus segmental PVR as part of pancreatoduodenectomy for pancreatic cancer include all degrees of PMV involvement, including cases where tangential PVR may not be a feasible approach, limiting the clinical applicability.

Methods: International retrospective study in 10 centers from 5 countries, including all consecutive patients after pancreatoduodenectomy with PVR for pancreatic cancer with ≤180° PMV involvement on cross-sectional imaging at diagnosis (2014-2020).

Prehabilitation for Chilean frail elderly people - pre-surgical conditioning protocol - to reduce the length of stay: randomized control trial.

Background: Frail elderly patients have a higher risk of postoperative morbidity and mortality. Prehabilitation is a potential intervention for optimizing postoperative outcomes in frail patients. We studied the impact of a prehabilitation program on length of stay (LOS) in frail elderly patients undergoing elective surgery.

Valve Frame Geometry and Arrhythmia Risk Following Self-Expanding Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve Replacement.

Though major complications during transcutaneous pulmonary valve replacement (TPVR) are rare, clinically-significant ventricular arrythmia (CSVA) has been reported following self-expanding valve placement. We assess whether alterations in valve frame dimensions and geometry within the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) post-implantation in patients who underwent TPVR with Harmony TPV25 or Alterra contribute to CSVA risk. A single center review was performed of patients who underwent TPVR with either Harmony TPV25 or Alterra Pre-stent between August 2019 and April 2023.

Developing and testing the feasibility of a theory-based brief counseling intervention to promote physical activity in breast cancer survivors enrolled in the PAC-WOMAN trial.

Background: Despite the benefits of physical activity (PA), cancer survivors report engagement barriers, and existing interventions often lack comprehensive solutions. Theory-based interventions using evidence-based behavior change techniques (BCTs) have been shown to be effective in promoting PA for breast cancer survivors, although their feasibility and acceptability lack evidence. The PAC-WOMAN trial is a three-arm randomized controlled trial aimed at promoting short- and long-term PA and improving the quality of life of breast cancer survivors.
