Article Synopsis
  • Long-COVID patients often develop autoimmune disorders, possibly due to reactivation of dormant herpesvirus infections post-COVID-19, which disrupts immune system regulation.
  • The study focused on analyzing specific markers on NK cells in 124 long-COVID patients based on the severity of their COVID-19 symptoms and the presence of HHV-6 reactivation.
  • Results indicated imbalances in immune response mechanisms, with those who had severe COVID and HHV-6 reactivation showing increased levels of FasL and CD38, suggesting a risk for autoimmunity and impaired immune tolerance.

An important feature of the functioning of the organs and tissues of the oral cavity is the fact that all processes that take place in it are carried out in the constant presence of various microorganisms that cause the development of pathological processes in the body or are associated with them. In the pathogenesis of chronic generalized periodontitis, dental plaque penetrates the bottom of the gingival sulcus, penetrating under the epithelium into the stroma of the connective tissue, causing its inflammation. Bacteria produce a number of toxic substances that have a toxic effect on surrounding tissues.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are formed in a nonenzymatic reaction of the reducing sugars with amino groups of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids of different tissues and body fluids. A relatively small number of studies have been conducted on the role of AGEs in allergic inflammation. In this study, patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) were examined for the presence of Epstein-Barr virus and the content of fluorescent and nonfluorescent AGEs.

Beta-lactam antibiotics (BLAs) can provoke drug hypersensitivity reactions, particularly delayed-type reactions. This article presents a case of drug allergy with manifestations of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJD) in a 42-year-old man with yersiniosis and active herpesvirus -4, -6 type, who received amoxacillin with clavulanic acid. The patient underwent a basophil activation test (BAT) for BLAs, and a positive result was found for both amoxacillin and 2nd and 3rd generation cephalosporins.
