Towards automated long-term acoustic monitoring of endangered river dolphins: a case study in the Brazilian Amazon floodplains.

Using passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) and convolutional neural networks (CNN), we monitored the movements of the two endangered Amazon River dolphin species, the boto (Inia geoffrensis) and the tucuxi (Sotalia fluviatilis) from main rivers to floodplain habitats (várzea) in the Mamirauá Reserve (Amazonas, Brazil). We detected dolphin presence in four main areas based on the classification of their echolocation clicks. Using the same method, we automatically detected boat passages to estimate a possible interaction between boat and dolphin presence.

Substance use prevention during adolescence: Study protocol for a large-scale cluster randomized trial of Botvin High School LifeSkills Training.

Background: Concerns about the rise in adolescent vaping and cannabis use suggest the need for effective substance use prevention programs. Botvin LifeSkills Training (LST) has a strong evidence base at the middle school level for preventing or reducing tobacco use and related problems. A high school (grades 9-10) version of the LST program was also developed and shows promising initial evidence for reducing tobacco use in a single pilot study.

Contribution to unravel variability in bowhead whale songs and better understand its ecological significance.

Since the first studies on bowhead whale singing behaviour, song variations have been consistently reported. However, there has been little discussion regarding variability in bowhead whale singing display and its ecological significance. Unlike the better studied humpback whales, bowhead whales do not appear to share songs at population level, but several studies have reported song sharing within clusters of animals.

Relationship between arterial remodelling and serial changes in coronary atherosclerosis by intravascular ultrasound: an analysis of the IBIS-4 study.

Aims: Arterial remodelling is an important determinant of coronary atherosclerosis. Assessment of the remodelling index, comparing a lesion to a local reference site, is a suboptimal correlate of serial vascular changes. We assessed a novel approach which, unlike the local-reference approach, uses the entire artery's global remodelling as reference.

Five-year clinical outcomes and intracoronary imaging findings of the COMFORTABLE AMI trial: randomized comparison of biodegradable polymer-based biolimus-eluting stents with bare-metal stents in patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.

Aims: The long-term outcomes of biolimus-eluting stents (BESs) with biodegradable polymer as compared with bare-metal stent (BMS) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remain unknown.

Methods And Results: We performed a 5-year clinical follow-up of 1157 patients (BES: N = 575 and BMS: N = 582) included in the randomized COMFORTABLE AMI trial. Serial intracoronary imaging of stented segments using both intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography performed at baseline and 13 months follow-up were analysed in 103 patients.
