The influence of the molecular weight and chemical structure of polyphenylene sulfone (PPSU) end groups on the formation of the porous structure of ultrafiltration (UF) hollow fiber membranes was investigated. Polymers with a molecular weight ranging from 67 to 81 kg/mol and with a hydroxyl-to-chlorine end group ratio ranging from 0.43 to 17.

The scope of this work was to develop a thin-film composite (TFC) membrane for the separation of CO/CO mixtures, which are relevant for many processes of gas processing and gasification of carbon-based feedstock. Special attention was given to the development of highly permeable porous polysulfone (PSF) supports (more than 26,000 GPU for CO) since both the selective and support layers contribute significantly to the overall performance of the TFC membrane. The PSF porous support is widely used in commercial and lab-scale TFC membranes, and its porous structure and other exploitation parameters are set during the non-solvent-induced phase separation (NIPS) process.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the rheological properties of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) compositions to find the ideal concentration for powder molding and 3D printing.
  • Research examined suspensions with varying ratios of PEEK and paraffin, revealing that those with over 50% PEEK lost their flow capability and behaved like elastic-plastic materials at higher concentrations.
  • An optimal 40% PEEK content was identified for both powder injection molding and 3D printing, resulting in satisfactory product quality, while higher PEEK levels (up to 50%) were only suitable for powder molding.

Experimental model of resection craniotomy with subsequent reconstruction of the defect with a polymer implant enables comprehensive assessment of functional and ultrastructural changes during replacement of the damaged tissue. Reconstruction of a skull defect was accompanied by transient motor disturbance in the acute period and did not cause functional disorders and neurological deficits in a delayed period. Histological examination of osteal and brain tissue revealed no pathological reactions that could be associated with the response to the chemical components of the implant.

For the first time, copolymers of polyphenylene sulfone (PPSU) with cardo fragments of phenolphthalein (PP) were synthesized to develop highly permeable flat-sheet ultrafiltration membranes. By introducing cardo fragments into the polymer chain, we achieved a mechanical strength 1.3 times higher than the strength of commercial PPSU.
