: We sought to improve accuracy while minimizing radiation hazards, improving surgical outcomes, and preventing potential complications. Despite the increasing popularity of these systems, a limited number of papers have been published addressing the historical evolution, detailing the areas of use, and discussing the advantages and disadvantages, of this increasingly popular system in lumbar spine surgery. Our objective was to offer readers a concise overview of navigation system history in lumbar spine surgeries, the techniques involved, the advantages and disadvantages, and suggestions for future enhancements to the system.

Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses three types of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) - PPARα, PPAR(ß/)δ, and PPARγ - and their role in gene transcription regulation through interactions with retinoid X receptors (RXRs)
  • It highlights how ligand-bound PPAR/RXR complexes recruit specific coactivator proteins to gene regulatory locations, impacting gene expression, but emphasizes that each PPAR can interact with only one coactivator at a time via a specific motif (LXXLL)
  • The study investigates the recruitment of various coactivators by different PPAR agonists intended for treating nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, finding that the efficacy and potency of co

Article Synopsis
  • Serpiginous choroiditis is a condition characterized by large exudative lesions near the optic nerve, with an unclear cause, possibly linked to infection or autoimmunity.
  • A patient diagnosed with this condition was treated with various medications, but only oral corticosteroids and cyclophosphamide effectively managed his symptoms, leading to successful resolution of lesions through plasma exchange.
  • The ongoing effectiveness of plasma exchange and cyclophosphamide during flare-ups indicates a likely autoimmune component to the disease and suggests the presence of unknown autoantibodies in its development.*

Background: While type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a major risk for ischemic stroke, the associated vessel wall characteristics remain essentially unknown. This study aimed to clarify intracranial vascular changes on three-dimensional vessel wall imaging (3D-VWI) using fast spin echo by employing 7Tesla (7T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in T2D patients without advanced atherosclerosis as compared to healthy controls.

Methods: In 48 T2D patients and 35 healthy controls, the prevalence of cerebral small vessel diseases and intracranial plaques were evaluated by 3D-VWI with 7T MRI.
