The Global Navigation Satellite System-Acoustic ranging combination technique (GNSS-A) is the only geodetic observation method that can precisely detect absolute horizontal and vertical seafloor crustal deformations at the centimetre scale. GNSS-A has detected many geophysical phenomena and is expected to make great contributions to earthquake disaster prevention science and geodesy. However, current observation methods that use vessels and buoys suffer from high cost or poor real-time performance, which leads to low observation frequency and delays in obtaining and transmitting disaster prevention information.

The circadian clock enables plants to adapt to their environment and control numerous physiological processes, including plant-pathogen interactions. However, it is unknown if the circadian clock controls nonhost resistance (NHR) in plants. To find out, we analyzed microarray data with the web-based tool DIURNAL to reveal that NHR-related genes show rhythmic expression patterns in the absence of a pathogen challenge.

Background: Measurement of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A (Lp-PLA) can be used as an adjunct to traditional cardiovascular risk factors for identifying individuals at higher risk of cardiovascular events. This can be performed by quantification of the protein concentration using an ELISA platform or by measuring Lp-PLA activity using platelet-activating factor (PAF) analog as substrate. Here, an enzymatic Lp-PLA activity assay method using 1-O-Hexadecyl-2-acetyl-rac-glycero-3-phosphocholine (rac C PAF) was developed.

Heart failure is accompanied with tissue (circulatory) hypoxia, and the metabolism of several drugs has been reported to be reduced in heart failure. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of another type of respiratory hypoxia, hypoxic hypoxia (FiO2 15 % for 24 h followed by FiO2 10 % for 9 days) on the metabolism of carvedilol enantiomers in rats. Oxidation of carvedilol in rat liver microsomes was evaluated in the presence of reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate, whereas glucuronidation was evaluated in the presence of UDP-glucuronic acid.
