Objective: COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, is characterized by hyperinflammation, which can trigger oxidative stress. At the same time, COVID-19 is accompanied by both psychological and physical stress. Copeptin, a novel stress marker, has been shown to predict disease outcomes in stress-induced diseases.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore how hemodialysis membranes affect DNA damage and repair in end-stage renal failure patients, focusing on gene expression involved in repairing oxidative damage.
  • The researchers measured the expression of specific repair genes in 20 ESRD patients before and after dialysis and compared it to 20 healthy individuals using real-time PCR methods.
  • Results showed no overall impact of the dialysis process on gene expression, but a significant decrease in PARP1 gene expression in ESRD patients indicates potential impairment in their DNA repair mechanisms, which could influence disease progression.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on emergency dialysis in individuals aged 65 and older, who are at a higher risk for kidney diseases.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 442 elderly patients, identifying factors like comorbidities, reasons for dialysis, and outcomes.
  • Findings reveal that a significant number had chronic kidney disease, with high mortality rates and specific indicators linked to increased risk, highlighting the need for tailored approaches in treating this population.

In our study, the protective role of synthetic aromatase inhibitors anastrozole (ANS), letrozole (LTZ) and exemestane (EXM) and natural aromatase inhibitors resveratrol (RSV) and apigenin (APG) against testicular failure caused by exposure to Bisphenol A (BPA) was investigated. The epididymal sperm concentration, sperm motility and sperm morphology were determined. Oxidative stress and inflammatory response parameters were examined and histological examinations were performed in testicular tissues.
