Procedures: Human U87 glioblastoma cells and U87-IDH1 mutant glioma cells were implanted into the brains of chick embryos at developmental day 5.
Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous in river and freshwater ecosystems. However, the hydraulic and hydrological mechanisms that regulate the activation and emissions of MPs from both the land surface and subsurface into rivers are not well understood. This study aims to quantify the instream MP concentration and MP load in a remote headwater catchment river (Taff Bargoed, Wales UK), which drains the UK's largest opencast coal mine (Ffos-y-fran), over a two-year period.

We investigated the relationship between BMI and parental education, nutritional health, eating culture, organized and non-organized physical activity (PA), motives for PA (weight loss/maintenance, enjoyment), and screen-time in children and adolescents.
Methods: 677 2- to 11-year-olds (young-age-group) and 464 12- to 20-year-olds (old-age-group) from Leipzig, a city in Germany, participated.
The aim of this study was to give insights on the effects of an industrially relevant kilning method, with a focus on lipase inactivation and oat-base production. Storage of non-kilned, dehulled oat kernels in either room temperature or at 37 °C for up to 64 days led to increasing lipase activity with time, despite a decrease in moisture content and water activity, demonstrating the importance of kilning before storage. It was shown that the temperature and relative humidity used during the kilning had a major impact on both protein solubility and lipase inactivation.

Anaerobic oxidation of methane (AOM) serves as the major sink of methane in anoxic wetland sediments, where electron acceptors are present, thereby effectively mitigating its emissions. Nevertheless, environmental controls on electron acceptors, in particular, the ubiquitous iron oxides, involved in AOM are poorly understood.
