Background Aims: The need for large-scale production of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-based cellular therapeutics continues to grow around the globe. Manual cell expansion processes can be highly variable between operators, require significant hands-on time from skilled staff and, because of the large number of open manipulation steps required to produce cells in dose-relevant quantities, be prone to greater risk of contamination relative to automated processes. All of these can increase overall production costs and risks to the patient.

Background: There are ethnic differences, including differences related to indigeneity, in the incidence of first episode psychosis (FEP) and pathways into care, but research on ethnic disparities in outcomes following FEP is limited.

Aims: In this study we examined social and health outcomes following FEP diagnosis for a cohort of Māori (Indigenous people of New Zealand) and non-Māori (non-Indigenous) young people. We have focused on understanding the opportunities for better outcomes for Māori by examining the relative advantage of non-Māori with FEP.

Both quality of product and rapidity of manufacture are critical parameters if ex vivo manufacturing of autologous chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapies is to reach its full potential. The Quantum Flex Cell Expansion System from Terumo Blood and Cell Technologies (Terumo BCT), a hollow-fiber bioreactor platform, is one of several cell expansion systems available to cell and gene therapy manufacturers to generate such cells in a GMP-compliant manner. In this study, the dynamic range of the Quantum Flex platform to expand CD19 CAR-T cells from variable quantities of starting material was investigated.

The presence of human pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment is recognised internationally as an important public health and environmental issue. In Scotland, healthcare sustainability targets call for improvements to medicine prescribing and use to reduce healthcare's impact on the environment. This proof-of-concept study aimed to develop a framework on the environmental impact of pharmaceuticals to use as a knowledge support tool for healthcare professionals, focussing on pharmaceutical pollution.
