Congenital hyperinsulinism in the Ukraine: a 10-year national study.

Introduction: Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI) has not been previously studied in Ukraine. We therefore aimed to elucidate the genetics, clinical phenotype, histological subtype, treatment and long-term outcomes of Ukrainian patients with CHI.

Methods: Forty-one patients with CHI were recruited to the Ukrainian national registry between the years 2014-2023.

Morphological studies of labyrinthine tissue in patients affected with Meniere's disease and vestibular schwannoma following labyrinthectomy.

Background: Meniere's disease (MD) is a disabling disease of the inner ear, having a substantial effect on a patient's quality of life. While various postulations regarding its aetiology exists, due to the difficulty with accessing inner ear tissue, there have been limited histological studies in patients with active MD.

Methods: Tissue was collected during labyrinthectomy from 8 patients with intractable MD who had failed medical therapy (22 samples), and 9 patients undergoing translabyrinthine resection of vestibular schwannoma (19 samples).

Implementation and impact of NHS-funded tobacco dependence services in England: a mixed-method evaluation protocol.

Introduction: Tobacco smoking remains a leading cause of ill-health, premature mortality and a driver of health inequalities. To support smokers in England, a comprehensive approach to treating tobacco dependence is being implemented. This includes offering support to all people admitted to hospitals, as well as women and pregnant people within NHS settings.

Successful treatment of an intrahepatic congenital portosystemic shunt causing dysfunction in a pediatric liver transplant graft.

A 5-month-old child developed severe liver dysfunction after a liver transplant with a partial liver graft. Ultrasound examination revealed a communication between the left portal vein and the left hepatic vein, a rare congenital portosystemic shunt. Here we describe the successful management of this shunt with an endovascular closure device.
