Introduction: Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) are the preferred vascular access for Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) due to user-friendliness and high safety level. Nevertheless, the lack of a validated tool hampers the yet ill-charted epidemiology and monitoring of PICC related complications in ambulatory care.

Methods: A sequential exploratory mixed-method three phase research design was used to develop and validate a monitoring tool for PICC complications in OPAT.

The entirely accidental observation of increased sintering performance of nickel-infiltrated yttria-stabilized zirconia (8YSZ) in a molybdenum and oxygen rich atmosphere was explored. Molybdenum and nickel were found to be synergistic sintering aids for 8YSZ. However, sintering had to take place in an atmosphere of flowing oxygen.

Nonflammable solid-state electrolytes can potentially address the reliability and energy density limitations of lithium-ion batteries. Garnet-structured oxides such as LiLaZrO (LLZO) are some of the most promising candidates for solid-state devices. Here, three-dimensional (3D) solid-state LLZO frameworks with low tortuosity pore channels are proposed as scaffolds, into which active materials and other components can be infiltrated to make composite electrodes for solid-state batteries.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporosis is a widespread but often overlooked condition that can lead to fractures, and using a cohesive team approach may help improve its diagnosis and treatment.* -
  • A study was conducted at a Belgian hospital to compare how patients were screened and treated for osteoporosis before and after introducing a structured clinical pathway.* -
  • Results showed that the new pathway significantly increased the number of bone density tests, referrals to osteoporosis specialists, and overall management of the condition among patients with low-impact fractures.*
